This restaurant has all the potential for a top experience... but unfortunately it missed the mark by a long way. First impressions... what a beautiful setting - cute garden, nice furniture, pleasant music... we sit down. Not too many tables, good amount of staff... Fifteen minutes later we have to ask for our menus. Twenty minutes after this we have to ask for service to a waiter who explains that Jack will come to take our order soon. Jack has so far been busy chatting with someone at another table since we arrived. Over he comes eventually: furled brow, eminating disdain for us interrupting his chat. What follows is a display of pure, unprovoked (passive) aggressiveness. Any question regarding the menu was met with a flippant response. He was the teacher and we his pesky students. A brief consultation of the wine list produced: 'well you can just have gin and tonic for all I care' - okay Jack. An hour of our time has passed and we are still yet to have eaten anything. Thankfully Sylvia comes to our rescue, with some friendly chat and asking if we're waiting for anything. 70 minutes in we finally have some wine. In drips and drabs our food comes out. It's all well and good having delicious (because it was) food, but when it is served in this way? Unacceptable. Three main courses came out together, and another ten minutes later. After nearly three hours we were finally able to leave. I'm happy to pay well for good food - but not for treatment such as we...
Read moreWe cannot say enough good things about our experience at Casa Colonica 1930 Al Negombo. We came for lunch during our day at Negombo and we’re immediately greeted by the phenomenal wait staff. They made us feel at home from the moment we sat down. Our amazing server (wish we had gotten his name) recommended an amazing wine (picture included) and our perfect Italian lunch began! For starters, we had the mussels Negombo style and the bruschetta. My boyfriend, who lives near an ocean, said they were the best mussels he has ever had. The bruschetta was so fresh and delicious as well. For our entrees, we had their caprese ravioli and pasta with rabbit, both of which were fantastic. Their desserts are specially made in-house which is clear from the care put in to them. The star of the show was our “Pomodoro” cake which looked like a tomato but tasted like a heavenly strawberry cake. We enjoyed dessert with some Amaro per our excellent server’s recommendation, and then finished the meal with some caffè. When I thought it was time to close, the sweet owner brought us out one more dessert on the house which ended our meal perfectly. We thank the staff at Casa Colonica 1930 for giving us one of the best dining experiences of our lives! We cannot wait to come back and bring our family...
Read moreFantastic food, fantastic service. Enzo looked after us from the moment we arrived. My husband thought he left his phone in the taxi on our way to the restaurant, and Enzo very kindly called the driver for us (as our Italian is limited). He and the team at Casa Colonica then guided us to fantastic choices of mussels to start (full of flavour and so fresh) followed by live blue lobster with pasta and fresh tomatoes (outstanding)! We ended the meal with a delicious Caprese cake (chocolate and almond, sweet but not cloying, great texture too). The setting, up in the hills above Negombo, is filled with lush greenery and flowers, our meal was punctuated by the intoxicating scent of sweet peas that made it all the more magical. Highly recommend CC if you...
