Beautiful and huge garden next to the northwest tip of Ischia. Great selection of flowers trees rocks or any natural beauty. Easily accessible, but it is recommended to start at the entrance on the hill called "Collina" so that you will go down while visiting the park, which saves you a lot of energy. I really loved the Thai Temple, with all the exotic flowers around it. The park is also a bit of a zoo because it houses birds, lizards , and fish as well as the plants. NOTE: the park is only open on Tuesdays Thursdays and Saturdays, so plan ahead because this is a must see sight in Ischia. Price is good for a garden (12 euro/adult and 7 euro/child. The ticket is valid from 9:00 to 19:00 so you can come back to the park. Park can be accessed by foot, it takes just 30 minutes walk from Fioro. Overall excellent park and definitely recommended.

I Giardini La Mortella sono dei bellissimi giardini che si trovano sull'isola di Ischia. Una location da visitare assolutamente, ancor più per gli amanti della flora. È così piena di varietà diverse di piante che può essere considerata alla stregua di un orto botanico. Nel 1956 Lady Walton chiamò il famoso architetto paesaggista Russell Page perché disegnasse l’impianto originario del giardino integrandolo fra le pittoresche formazioni rocciose di origine vulcanica. Questi giardini si estendono su una superficie di circa 2 ettari, ospitando una vastissima varietà di piante oltre le tipiche mediterranee. La Mortella si divide in 2 aree, la parte in basso, definita a valle, e quella superiore chiamata la collina. Le varie zone del giardino sono connesse con viali, sentieri, muri a secco, rampe e scalette, che permettono ai visitatori di raggiungere la zona più alta dove si gode di una splendida vedute sulla baia di Forio. Nel giardino ci sono tre serre tropicali: la Victoria House (dove viene coltivata la Victoria amazonica) la Serra delle Orchidee ed il Tempio del Sole. Quindi, per gli amanti degli uccellini, c'è anche una grande voliera con diversi tipi di uccelli e pappagalli. L'ingresso è sia dalla parte superiore che inferiore. Il parcheggio, sia per auto che per moto, si trova nella parte superiore ed è gratuito. Nei giardini si trovano anche diversi bagni, tutti ben tenuti e puliti. Il personale è cortese e disponibile. I giardini sono davvero puliti e ben tenuti, si vede che c'è molta cura del posto e non solo del verde. Scendendo dalla collina si trova un piccolo negozio con gadget e regali ma soprattutto che anche una bella sala dove si organizzano concerti, soprattutto durante tutta la stagione estiva. Inoltre, a metà tra la zona a valle e quella in collina si trova un simpatico bar dove è possibile rifocillarsi. I prezzi sono buoni e la qualità non è male (consiglio vivamente la bruschetta). Il prezzo di 12 euro a persona (mentre per i bambini c'è una piccola riduzione) è forse leggermente alto ma è ben pagato per il bel posto che si visita e per il suo mantenimento.

The gardens are beautiful but my advice would be to visit earlier than we did. We went in the afternoon and while parts of the gardens are very cool to see the other areas mean lots and lots of steps to other gardens, no less beautiful but dryer and seemingly hotter. There is a lovely tearoom where you can have a snack and a lovely cold drink, you need a €1 coin to visit the orchid house, surely they should just build this in to the price! Take the bus no 1 but make sure that your ticked is valid and not out of time. Inspectors boarded our bus when we returned to bus terminal and charged one person €46 because their ticket (100 minute) had run out!

Giardini La Martella is a true highlight of Ischia. Gorgeous garden commissioned by the English composer Sir William Walton’s family that lived on the island. The garden is a combination of well designed areas each with unique structure and exotic flora including Asian, Tropical, Mediterranean etc and beautiful concerts area ( check the performances schedule). Don’t underestimate how big it is, you can easily spend half a day there, chilling at the cool ground level and admiring views on Forio town on a hot upper deck - lots of stairs. £12 per adult - must see to marvel human creativity and nature

Beautiful🌿 what a amazing garden. You can see the dedication and love for the place. Everything is very well taken care of. Lovely sitting spots with amazing view of the garden and the bay. There were even some special aroids Hidden in plain sight. A lot of plants have a name tag. Maybe the only recommendation I have, more name tags to the trees and plants. Or maybe some information signs about special plants. We had lunch at the cafe which was fresh and delicious. We've spent like 4 hours amazing ourselves with all the beautiful plants and landscaping. It was a day we'll spend.

Description
La Mortella is a private garden in the island of Ischia, Italy. It was first opened to the public in 1991. It was created by Susana Walton, wife of the composer William Walton, starting in the 1950s as the main residence for the couple.
