If I could give 3 1/2 stars I would. We saved this restaurant to be the last before our trip back home and I am sorry to say we left very disappointed. It all started with the arrival as we were early and always having to worry about parking we did not want to be late. We invited ourselves to sit down outside the restaurant until they opened and of course not a minute before. We felt lucky we could bring our 2 dogs and the setting and table were perfect. Very cozy a bit loud from the traffic but the owners did well to separate that with flowers and green and lighting. Service in the beginning I thought was well but we seemed to be getting a different person each time something was delivered.. the appetizer was good but the bread was nothing special ... then we ordered the risotto with truffle, which was very good but very expensive as you had to order at least two servings ... then for our main course “Tagliatelle fatte in casa” with sausage & (I presume) rosemary, the rosemary was so strong you could not taste the sausage and the sausage was very good if eaten alone.. then came dessert.. we got 2 and the chocolate mousse was very good but the pistachio mouse tasted Like nothing. I watched one lady who I assume was the owner talk from table to table to every Italian speaking customer spending over 10 minutes talking to one table while we we wanting to pay our bill but no one would come. Then another person came out and started talking to another Italian speaking table for another 5 minutes. She finished and the owner was still talking to the table she had been at for over 10 minutes .. 3 tables were waiting to get the check so they could pay and no one would come. I have to say for good food and good service I do not care about the price, but when you have high prices and the food and service does not match it i have issues with that. I left disappointed and just as when we came we did not get a welcome and as we left after 2 1/2 hours we did not even...
Read moreNot new mum or newborn baby friendly.
My husband and I have visited this restaurant many times as we live nearby. We recently became parents for the first time and thought it would be the perfect place to take our newborn baby out for the first meal as the family that run it have always been so friendly.
During the meal, my newborn became hungry. We were sat outside and all the tables were busy in the terrace area and fairly close together, so I asked the manager if I could tuck myself away inside to feed my baby - (inside was completely empty).
The manager said no, and that I couldn’t feed her outside at our table either, he told me I had to use the toilet!
I was a new mum, so naively I attempted to balance on the toilet lid and feed my newborn, she was hungry after all. There’s no chair in the bathroom and just one toilet so people kept knocking on the door. It was really stressful and made me cry. I was never going to be able to feed her properly in that environment. So my baby was hungry and upset. There weren’t changing facilities either.
We should have left the restaurant as soon as he said I couldn’t feed my baby. But as I say, we were new parents and learning.
There is nothing wrong, sexual or embarrassing with a mother feeding her child. It’s the most natural thing. If you find something weird about it, it’s you and your mind that is the problem.
If I had been bottle feeding my child, you wouldn’t have said a thing. I was a new mum attempting to bring my baby out for the first time, and you made the experience stressful and sad. A really sad memory.
My poor child couldn’t feed and was then distraught. Of course it meant not ordering anything else and leaving.
We used to really enjoy this restaurant, however, after this experience we won’t ever return. Im sure the people eating on the terrace wouldn’t have minded me feeding my baby outside. I was covered.
Thankfully we haven’t faced this outdated and backwards view anywhere else we’ve...
Read moreSome of the best food that we have eaten in all of Como, or even all of Italy. A truly fantastic dining experience and a very warm atmosphere.
The restaurant is very old and therefore on the side of the road, which offers little view and the occasional traffic zipping by, but one shouldn’t let this bother them. The actual terrace is lovely.
The only thing that was a little bit confusing to us is what we thought was a complementary Prosecco or “Italian champagne” as they called it, that was offered to us in the beginning of the night as a very specific welcome drink. We thought it a rather warm gesture and noticed almost every single patron had a glass, so we accepted. When the server brought it, he poured a little, asked us if we liked it; we said yes and he asked if we wanted a whole Bottle. We were confused and said just one glass per person was more than generous.
At the end of the night, I saw that we were charged €33 for these 3 Proseccos... I didn’t argue because I thought it may have been my misunderstanding, but after doublechecking with my party, we all agreed we were very specifically told it was supposed to be complementary, which also explains how almost every single adult in the restaurant had the same drink. I don’t mind paying for a delicious drink, but it was bordering on misleading. It wasn’t even a proper pour.
Just something to pay attention to as it would be a very awkward and uncomfortable conversation afterwards, which is why I chose to let it go and not ask for clarification.
Nonetheless, highly recommend this restaurant as a...
