The older gentleman waiters were truly delightful, very attentive and giving excellent advice on what to order.

I would also like to thank the kind server who followed us for entertaining our silly desire and allowing us to take a photo with him. Extremely kind.

The antipasto of raw fish which had been kept in salt was soft and flavorful, would highly recommend for anyone going there isn’t the future. For the first, they were kind enough to allow us to share dishes (black risotto and ravioli) and would pre-split them in the kitchen to permit us to eat comfortably. Additionally, the second we shared of grilled fish was cooked perfectly (we ordered two different fish which they also shared amongst the 5 of us). The two bottles of wine we shared were also very worth it, the latter being a Mozia Grillo 2021.

If you like pistacchio cream I would highly recommend the bocca di lupo; however, our table believed the best dessert we tried was the homemade Cassata. It was very delicate.

They offered us freebie sesame seed covered biscuits and liquor at the end, which closes off our great evening as we chatted the evening away.

Despite the heat today, the position we had which faced the fountain and garden offered a lot of air and serene quiet. On the other side you have a view if the city lights which is a bit covered by a playground but it’s equally peaceful.

Only downside to the evening (or thing worth mentioning) was the owner (the younger man who is often at the front) who left a bit to desire. He only followed the same 3 tables and did not pay attention to other guests which was a pity.

The most disappointing restaurant in 4 weeks of travel through Italy. Based on the reviews and legacy we thought this would be a special restaurant for our first night in Lipari. Unfortunately everything from start to end was bad. Some of our dishes were recommended by the waiter however this was just to upsell (for kitchen efficiency). The only warm fish (Polpettine alla ricotta) was heated in the microwave. It came within 3 minute of ordering as did our other starters and 4 pieces cost 14€. The waiter recommended the house wine (Grillo) which was bad and had to be changed. Positively he changed it with no complaints. I have travelled through Sicily last year and visited many wineries and know italian wine quite well. We chose the squid ink risotto for the primo that once again came within minutes of clearing the starters and only tasted of risotto with stock and no calamari and no squid ink flavour, the black was only for colour. As all this is happening the waiters were in a hurry and gave us very little attention. The table next to us was also up-sold the same starters and primo. Finally asked the waiter to slow down with the food and little do we know we are already having our fish (3rd course) within 40 minutes. We actually wanted to leave as it wasn’t a pleasant experience, felt like a tourist money making factory. The bill ended up being 106, happy to pay that price for good food and service but not on this occasion. Avoid as there’s lots of other great...

Più grandi sono le aspettative, maggiore sarà la delusione quando queste vengono disattese...

Troviamo questo famoso ristorante all'interno della guida lonely planet e sin dal primo giorno sull'isola, vista la celebrità del posto (raccomandatoci tra l'altro anche dal proprietario della nostra casa vacanza), decidiamo che dovevamo assolutamente andarci a cena.

Telefoniamo la sera stessa che abbiamo messo piede a Lipari e la prima data disponibile è dopo 5 giorni, ovvero quasi in concomitanza con la fine della nostra vacanza. Decidiamo pertanto di fissare tale data e di organizzare quella che sarebbe stata la cena da gran finale del nostro soggiorno Liparota. Montando tra l'altro ancor di più le nostre aspettative sul posto.

Arrivato il grande giorno, ci presentiamo in perfetto orario e veniamo subito accolti in questo locale che ricorda in qualche modo i grandi saloni da ricevimento anni 80 dove andavamo da bambini per i matrimoni. Tuttavia per un ristorante del genere ci può anche stare l'atmosfera un po' vintage.

Subito dopo esserci accomodati, ci salta subito all'occhio l'età adulta di quasi tutto il personale di sala. Cosa che apprezziamo e interpretiamo come segno di professionalità ed esperienza, impressione che poi si rivelerà veritiera durante tutta la cena.

A darci il benvenuto, si avvicina al nostro tavolo un'anziano e gentile signore che si presenterà come il proprietario del posto, cosa che apprezziamo molto e che ci fa sentire subito in buone mani.

Il signore, da subito cerca di consigliarci guidandoci nella scelta dei piatti. Ora, data la ricchezza della vasca del pescato del giorno eravamo quasi tutti orientati a scegliere un secondo di pesce ma dietro consiglio del proprietario decidiamo invece di iniziare con un antipasto misto di pesce e un primo.

Tale scelta è stata anche guidata dal fatto che il menù cartaceo risulta essere a tratti di difficile comprensione, data la moltitudine di piatti presenti che possono far confondere chi non ha le idee chiare su cosa prendere.

Sta di fatto che dopo l'ordinazione vino e antipasti arrivano in un battibaleno e iniziamo la nostra cena.

L'antipasto misto risulta essere molto buono e ricco di sfiziosi abbinamenti che comprendono: pesce, frutta e formaggi locali. Il tutto ci lascia molto soddisfatti e ci lascia presagire dei primi altrettanto buoni ed invitanti.

Purtroppo però non è stato così, poiché tutti i primi piatti scelti avevano un non so che di deludente, la pasta sembrava essere troppo al dente (come evidenziato da molte altre recensioni) e il condimento era troppo pesante per i maccheroni alla Filippino e troppo brodoso per le fettuccine dell'isolano.

Forse saremo stati noi a non comprendere fino in fondo la loro cucina, ma l'impressione è stata quella che forse era meglio prendere un secondo, che a parità di prezzo ci avrebbe lasciati più soddisfatti. Anche perché stiamo parlando di 19€ per un piatto di pasta, prezzo che ovviamente ci è sembrato più legato al prestigio del locale che alla qualità dei piatti.

Insomma, siamo rimasti un po' delusi nel complesso, poiché abbiamo provato altri ristoranti molto più alla mano e ne siamo usciti veramente contenti, mentre qui poteva andare meglio.

Ciò non toglie che Da Filippino rimane a mio parere una tappa fondamentale per visita Lipari, magari però optando...
