After seeing and hearing so many good things about Kalpnā, we booked a table for an evening meal. I am sorry to say but it’s probably one of the worst meal we’ve had in Puglia… Don’t get me wrong we love our food and we both have traveled to India and needless to say, we love a good curry!!! We were very excited when looking at the menu and ordered a ‘safe’ selection of prawns battered in spiced chickpea flour which were delicious, then the main courses arrived… chicken tikka masala, spiced aubergine, rice, tandoor platter and peshwari nan. The tikka masala was over spiced and lacking any creaminess, more like a tomato sauce… chicken was mostly overcooked too. Spiced aubergine was delicious but the tandoor plater was a total failure. All the meat on there was overcooked (including prawns and fish) and the lamb even tasted slightly off… I never leave any food on my plate usually (take a doggy bag home if there’s any left!) but that would not happen, neither of us could take anymore, everything was so over spiced that you could not differentiate between them, when I mean over spiced I do not mean hot, more like a mashup of spices lacking finesse. It felt like everything had been cooked previously and warmed up (overdone in that case) Even the peshwari nan was more like a flat bread with pistachios in it - missing the actual texture of a nan bread and the most important: sweet coconut!! It is a real shame as they are a lovely couple and a much needed addition to the community. Hopefully they were just having an off day but sadly we won’t...

This is a fantastic addition to the neighborhood. The owners, an Italian man with a deep understanding of the Indian language, culture, and, most importantly, the cuisine, and his lovely Indian wife, are incredibly friendly and welcoming. From the moment you step in, they create a warm and inviting atmosphere.
The food is authentic and bursting with flavor—you can really feel their passion in every dish. The cozy setup, complete with Indian-inspired decor, enhances the overall experience, making it a perfect place to enjoy a meal.
If you're looking for genuine Indian cuisine in a relaxed setting, I highly...
Read moreI am Indian traveling with my Italian partner and his family through the Adriatic coast. I was satisfied having home food after so long (Priyanka also kindly gave me extra Dahi-achaar/yoghurt-pickle) at the end. My Italian family were very pleased as well. The dishes were well explained in the menu, it was the first time some of them trying Indian food in a restaurant. The chef managed to make everything taste authentic without adding any chillies (zero piccante). I personally loved the Bhaingan ki barta. Highly recommend for those passing through Alberobello! Totally worth the 20-30...
