Pizzeria Ristorante Antica Corte — Restaurant in Moniga del Garda

Nothing special. Expectations were high after reading about this must-visit restaurant.

I made reservation by email for 18:30 hours. It was confirmed TWICE. When we got there, they had no table reserved for us. We got a table reserved for someone else who made reservations for 20:00. We got our pizza which was nice but not special. It could easily have been a pizza from our local restaurant in the Netherlands.

We were about the first customers of the evening but when we ordered the tiramisu for dessert, the waitress told us the tiramisu "was finished". Other then that they stopped making tiramisu at all I cannot think of an explanation for thia at the beginning of the evening.

I don't know where the hype comes from. The guide in which I read about them is already 7 years old. Perhaps they got too popular and are they victim of their own success.

And they added 2,50 for "service" per person. It might be common practice in Italy but I didn't see where the €2,50 for "service" per person...

Avoid this place. We had a reservation for a table outside for our family, after trying the night before when they convinced us to book a table for the following night. We were really looking forward to this as it was our last evening in Moniga, Garda.

Showing up a few minutes early we were in a very arrogant way told that they had made a mistake and that they did not have any table available. They made it clear that this was now OUR problem. They did not request a phone number making the reservation so they could not contact us. They offered us to wait for 1h (!) in 35c heat and with hungry kids.

After trying to talk to a rude and stressed out waiter he cursed in Italian naturally expecting us not to 'understand' in a annoying and extremely arrogant way. The kids were really sad. Luckily we managed to stop a neighboring apartment on the resort from making...

The ambiance is good , in an old courtyard with wooden bench seats . The prices are very fair . However the food we had was at best , average . We were disappointed. The spaghetti carbonara was dry and over cooked with the egg going solid. Not enough sauce mainly oil. The calzone looked good on arrival but on cutting it open I saw cheap ingredients such as budget price ham and mozzarella and sliced mushrooms from a can ! Looks like the ingredients all came from Lidl . I have had many calzone in Italy and can say this one was made for the tourist not...
