Il Convivio Bistrot — Restaurant in Ostuni

Fabulous food away from tourist traps. None of the staff speak English but with technology available at your finger trips you can easily navigate their menu on the board (in Italian only) using google translate.

The restaurant is by no means fancy but if you would like a memorable unique dining experience this is the place to go.

For the first dish I had rice with potatoes and mussels. Very simple ingredients and yet there’s outstanding depth of flavour and it is truly delicious.

Following that I had fried calamari. Light and perfectly seasoned batter with generous portion of calamari. A comfort food at its best.

Authentic Puglian cuisine at a great price

We visited Ostuni recently (January 2023), and outside of the Centro Storico, we found an outstanding small restaurant, Il Convivio Bistrot (the banquet). The day’s offerings are listed on a large board at the back of the bistrot - very reasonably priced. We had the alici marinate (heavenly, fresh, deboned, and marinated anchovies in olive oil and lemon), crocchette di patate (crispy and tasty), frittura mista (crispy fried squid/calamari and small fish), and braciole e polpette (meatballs in delicious tomato sauce). This is a tucked away little gem which is easy to walk past.

We visited here after reading the reviews on Google and I must say they did not disappoint.

This is primarily a place which locals eat with limited English interaction understandably. The menu changes on a daily basis and is written on the wall.

we went for the crotuettes and cheese and tomatoes for starters before moving on to the tuna (tonno) and canneloni. Finished with some coffee and dessert.
