I had the pleasure of discovering "La Taverna della Gelosia" during my business trip to Ostuni where I had with me a road race bike of great value. But I want to tell you a story. Before entering this tavern I had tried to eat in the nearby tavern called "osteria del tempo perso" which rejected my request to be able to "park" my bike in their safe space (external stairs) during lunch. After being rejected by the "taverna del tempo perso" I continued to walk for few minutes in the alleys of Ostuni where I discovered the beautiful "Taverna della Gelosia" (Tavern of Jealousy) to which I asked to have lunch and to be able to "park" my bike in their safe space during lunch. The staff was extremely kind in accommodating my request by making available a small space of their cellar room where to park the bike during my lunch. This is the real welcome, typical of Italy and those who know how to manage a restaurant. I had lunch inside the tavern where the rooms were very elegant and extravagant characterized by a private collection of ex voto icons, sacred art. The terraces were very charming from which you could see the valley of olive trees and the sea. Once at the table the service was impeccable, the property very nice with Emilane origins with which I had an interesting conversation about "the name of the tavern". I suggest you ask him so as to know some curiosity about the birth of this restaurant and his name :) The excellent dishes, unique flavors, high-class dishes. Really recommended if you are looking for an exclusive place to eat in Ostuni. I was lucky to accidentally meet this...
Read moreTaverna della Gelosia is a gem tucked away in the beautiful old town of Ostuni. The setting is absolutely stunning – atmospheric, romantic, and full of charm, with stone walls and lush greenery that transport you to another time.
We started with the grilled polpo and the restaurant’s signature favourite purée – both outstanding. The polpo was perfectly cooked: soft, tender, and full of flavor. The purée, creamy and well-seasoned, complemented it wonderfully.
For mains, we had the risotto with shrimp tartare and the orecchiette with ragu. Both dishes were simple yet packed with the rich, comforting flavors of Puglia. The grilled eggplant (melanzane-style) was a delightful side, pairing seamlessly with the mains and adding a smoky depth.
Service was impeccable – attentive, warm, and professional. And the setting? Truly divine. Dining here felt like a special occasion. Highly recommended for anyone visiting Ostuni who wants a memorable dining experience rooted in regional...
Read moreVery nice place tucked away in Ostuni. Ostuni itself is a magnificent place, a must when down in Puglia. The food was not tasty, sorry to say. Parmigiano had no taste, and was not done. The cured meat selection was not bad, but we left 50% on the plate even though we were 7 people. The roasted octopus was not done and to chewy, ni pil, lemon or any other ingredients. The risotto had some ingredients which were not to our taste, Orichette was al dente, but to hard and almost no sayce or taste. The desserts were very disappointing, We ordered all of them as we were a group, and we left most of it on the plates. The service is good and well organized. The restaurant was full by the time we left, many people seem to know about it. They change the plates after every course, the tables are beautufully set, the view is over the valley all the...
