I was looking for authentic Sicilian food made and served with passion and without fuss, and this is exactly what I found at Trattoria del Gallo. This place, in a nutshell, lets the magic of Italy happen all around you.
The antipasto board is a delightful collection of excellence.
The wild boar Ragu is utter perfection, served with house pasta that is creamy and perfectly shaped for the sauce - with an al dente texture that set a new standard.
I had never tried horse meat. I wasn't sure I wanted to. But there was something in the waiters' face that told me the time had come... and I was blown away. The thinly sliced sweet, beefy flavours were brought out by the addition of bitter notes of radicchio , and broadened with thin wedges of cheese (provolone picante ? I'm not sure).
The table wine was also a delight, with rustic notes that suggested preservative free oxidation - a taste I would previously have considered aged but enjoyed so much that it expanded my palate.

We took the sparkling white wine and a rose. We had a lot of the antipasti including caponata, ricotta cheese, cold cuts and sliced cheese, pork sausages, minced goat and horse meat stew. Then we had aubergine ravioli and tartufo tagliatelle. Both were delicious. For dessert we had the tiramisu and sweet ricotta ravioli. They were delicious.
