Old Bar Sport — Restaurant in Piana degli Albanesi

We drove 1 hour from Palermo specifically to have a cannoli in this bar which suppose to be the best. What a disappointment it was. We were there at 10.30am. There was almost nothing on display so we asked for cannoli and the lady behind the counter went inside (me thinking "great it will be freshly done") and very fast produced a cannolo on a stainless steel tray which looks like it was used before and handed it to me. My husband ordered another pastry from their display and she added it to the tray. Then we ordered cappuccinos to go with our morning tea. I almost cried when I tasted the cannolo. It was overly sweet with burned pastry - nothing what I used to have. It didn't taste fresh at all. My husband pastry was not appetising either. The coffee was not too far behind. We arrived around 3pm on a Sunday in early November when it was raining hard. The owner greeted us warmly and prepared 2 cannoli (2.5 euro each), an espresso, and a macchiatto. 1.2 euro each. Siamo andati appositamente per degustare il famoso cannolo di questo antico bar, nella piana degli albanesi, dove c'è ancora la doppia lingua, e la ricotta è davvero diversa dalle altre parti, meno lavorata non stucchevolmente dolce, senza nessuna spezia, solo un ottimo candito all'arancia. La "buccia" come la chiamano in Sicilia, leggerissima croccante ma non dura, fritta bene senza il retrogusto amarognolo che spesso alcuni cannoli molto cotti lasciano. La caratteristica è che fanno anche mega cannoli extra large... E poi tutto il resto, le paste di mandorle secche i cantucci, i biscotti da zuppa per latte e tante altre leccornie del posto finalmente la mia attesa, ha soddisfatto le aspettative ... Non vi aspettate un locale curato o fashion ricordatevi che si chiama antico bar dello sport è rimasto tutto...
