La Locanda — Restaurant in Piazza Armerina

I had a quick stop in Piazza Armerina during my travels through Sicily, and I’m so glad I found my way to La Locanda. What a gem! The restaurant is nestled in a beautiful location that perfectly captures the charm of the town.

From the moment I arrived, I was warmly welcomed by the kind and gracious staff—genuinely some of the nicest people I’ve met on this trip. Even though it was a short visit, their hospitality made a lasting impression.

Lunch was delicious—fresh, flavorful, and made with love. The entire experience felt like a perfect Sicilian moment.

This was the worst meal we had in our 6 weeks in Italy. We started with the caponata which had too much sugar in it and tasted like bad takeout Chinese food. I had the ravioli with saffron and walnut. My partner had the ravioli with speck and asparagus and the veal in red wine sauce. None of these three dishes had any flavor. My partner found a hair in his food that was tangled around a piece of speck. The veal was over cooked. The red wine sauce tasted like vinegar. YUCK. I ordered the saffron ravioli-tasteless, industrial type sold at the supermarket, and came with a hair in it. I asked the server to check the second course for hairs and while staring at the hair on the ravioli he let me know he didn't believe me. Perfect. Mixed grilled meats--hard to make this unappetizing, but they did. Came with weird small pieces of sad, dry iceberg lettuce. The red house wine was poor quality and the bread cold and tasteless. Atmosphere upstairs is real loud with terrible pop music blaring. Entrance level was quiet and charmless, with all tables right outside...
