Worst experience in a restaurant in Italy so far! We ordered starters and pizza. The pizzas came while we were still eating the starters. We pointed to the waiter that we were not done with the appetizers and that if he left the pizzas at the table they would get cold. His answer was to push the plates from which we were eating the appetizers and leave the pizzas next to them. At this point, we had two options: eating cold pizza and enjoy the appetizers or leaving the appetizers on the table and eat the pizza. We called the owner of the restaurant to express our disappointment and frustration, she apologized but said that it was not a big deal, because we could eat the appetizers and the pizza together or eat the appetizers after finishing the pizza!!! I particularly cancelled my pizza and refused to pay the appetizers because the whole situation had ruined my appetite and had ruined a family dinner. She focused on the money and insinuated that we were complaining to avoid paying, saying “però voi avete già mangiato la metà degli antipasti. Io non mi arricchisco con 11 € di un antipasto”. In the end, everybody ate just half of the pizza (because of the bad mood we were in and because it was gummy and not well-cooked). The owner didn’t even have the decency to offer a digestive or a desert for their mistake or coming back and apologizing and seeing us off as I have generally seen in other restaurants when they receive a valid complain from a costumer. Truly authentic Neapolitan pizza in the heart of Pizzo! The Bufalina was incredible, the cannoli unforgettable, and the atmosphere full of warmth. We came for the food—what we found was so much more.

We visited SPQR several times during our stay and it quickly became one of our favorite places—not just in Pizzo, but anywhere we’ve traveled. Francesco makes pizza the way it should be: light, full of flavor, and cooked to perfection. Even the simplest mozzarella pizza had us talking about it long after we left.

Ella’s cannoli was the sweetest surprise—homemade, beautifully presented, and absolutely delicious. It’s that kind of thoughtful detail that sets this place apart.

But what really made the experience unforgettable was the people. Antonio, our server, was kind, funny, and made us feel at home right away. Even with the language barrier, there was always a smile, a gesture, or a bit of laughter to help us connect.

We loved sitting at our table, watching our kids run around the piazza, soaking in the view and the vibe. SPQR isn’t just about food—it’s about soul. It reflects the spirit of the town: friendly, relaxed, full of life.

Thank you to the whole team for making our time in Pizzo so special. We’ll never forget it—and we’re already dreaming of coming back.

Abbiamo cenato da SPQR diverse volte durante il nostro soggiorno, ed è diventato uno dei nostri posti preferiti—non solo a Pizzo, ma in generale. Francesco prepara la pizza come si deve: leggera, saporita, cotta alla perfezione. Anche la più semplice, con mozzarella, ci ha conquistati.

Il cannolo di Ella è stata una dolce sorpresa—fatto in casa, presentato con eleganza, e davvero delizioso. Sono questi piccoli dettagli che rendono SPQR speciale.

Ma ciò che ha reso l’esperienza davvero indimenticabile sono state le persone. Antonio, il nostro cameriere, è stato gentile, simpatico, e ci ha fatti sentire subito a casa. Anche con qualche barriera linguistica, c’erano sempre sorrisi, gesti e risate che ci univano.

Adoravamo sederci lì, guardare i nostri bambini giocare nella piazza, e goderci il panorama e l’atmosfera. SPQR non è solo cibo—è anima. Riflette lo spirito del paese: accogliente, rilassato, pieno di vita.

Grazie a tutto il team per aver reso il nostro tempo a Pizzo così speciale. Non lo dimenticheremo mai—e stiamo già...

Not recommended! After spending 10 min on choosing our meals from menu and making decision, waiter came and said that pizza is not available (he could do it at the beginning). But they do it by purpose (he did the same thing to other clients next to us). After ordering pastas, a few minutes later waiter came and asked if cook can change type of our pastas... Food was below average and didn't contain specific ingredients indicated in menu. (Again, clients next to us also asked where is main ingredient in their meal!). Price way tooooo high compering to...
