Ristorante Da Matteo — Restaurant in Ravenna

Expensive pretentious fish restaurant, not sure it was worth it. Despite the effort of an annoying waiter to chose the dishes he wanted us to get (not sure why) we got some nice appetizers/pasta but the main course was not entirely satisfying.

I had ordered a mixed grilled fish plate and instead I got a deep pan fried with bread crumbs. I really did not want this but I kept it anyway as we were a big table and we wanted to eat together and tried not very successfully to get rid of the crumbs. When I asked for some lemon to squeeze on the fish they brought me which I really did not like one waiter explained to me that “you really do not squeeze lemon on fish”....I had to ask twice to get my lemon which really annoyed me.

Another guest had been served a type of ravioli which would probably be best served/offered at Xmas (seppia based paste filled with stock fish and truffle) and they were incredibly chewy and hard to swallow so much so that she nearly chocked on one and we had to leave in a hurry to attend to her.

This was not my first time in this restaurant but it will be my last.

All in all - some dishes nice, other less. Service was annoying and frankly pretentious for an expensive restaurant. I travel a lot and eat in many places to recognize a less than adequate service which can make your evening...

Accoglienza da incubo, ci hanno accomodato in un tavolo molto carino davvero d'impatto, tovaglia doppia cestino graziosissimo con pane fatto da loro, ma ben presto ci siamo svegliati da quello che poi si è rivelato un brutto sogno. Il cameriere dopo 5 minuti torna e ci dice Ah ma voi col coupon non dovete mica stare qui, dicendolo a voce alta è assolutamente senza garbo e classe come se a sbagliare fossimo stati noi. Perché dovete sapere che il ristorante da Matteo si divide in due zone la zona più "in" diciamo.....e la zona da battaglia a buon mercato, ovvero self-service e asporto. Per carità noi non siamo fighetti che ci lamentiamo perché siamo finiti in uno stanzone chiuso al caldo, con la gente in fila che prendeva da asporto o che aveva il coupon come noi..... la situazione disdicevole è proprio il fatto di vendere un'offerta del genere senza la benché minima menzione di quello che ci saremmo aspettati..... ovvero il fatto di essere in una zona self service come in una mensa aziendale..... col tuo cabaret il tuo numerino di prenotazione e ogni 30 secondi sentivi urlare a squarciagola un numero..... Per il resto tutto il cibo offerto si discosta pochissimo da quello menzionato sul Groupon, si attengono bene o male al 90% con tutto quello che c'è scritto, ma sulla qualità lasciamo proprio perdere..... spiccano fra tutti paccheri all'amatriciana in cui paccheri non sono paccheri ma rigatoni ed erano stracotti stra salati...... Non voglio descrivere le altre portate ovviamente servite nei piatti di carta o nelle tegline della CUKI argentate..... in quanto vomitevoli. Fa sorridere la descrizione in cui indicano "calice di vino"..... ci hanno orgogliosamente donato mezzo litro di garzellino frizzante da bere rigorosamente nei bicchieri di plastica. Dimenticavo.....prezzo originale coupon 90 euro....Fa gia' molto...

It's such a lovely place. I have been there few times for crudités and it's just above any expectations. I recommend it to families and couples though, as for group of friends might be a bit too "romantic". In addition, I suggest to ask to MAX about RHUM at the end of the dinner, as the usually have a wide selection. Also, in case you want to try something different, over the summer the run the "Wednesday/Thursday with crudités" for 60€ (no drinks included) If I remember properly (just double check): the selection of starters is just unlimited and then you have few main courses.
