A Culinary Gem in San Giovanni: A Review of Big Friends Rome.
Nestled in the vibrant heart of Rome's San Giovanni district, Big Friends Rome stands out as a premier destination for authentic Italian cuisine. This gorgeous establishment offers a dining experience that seamlessly blends sophisticated ambiance with exceptional culinary artistry and truly professional service.
From the moment one steps inside, the restaurant impresses with its elegant setting, creating a welcoming atmosphere suitable for both intimate dinners and celebratory occasions. However, the true star is undoubtedly the food. The menu showcases a deep respect for Italian culinary traditions, with particular praise warranted for the seafood selection.
The freshness, quality, and preparation of the seafood dishes were simply incredible, representing some of the finest coastal flavors one can find in the city. The high standards extend beyond the kitchen. The service team operates with an impressive level of professionalism and attentiveness, ensuring a smooth and enjoyable dining experience for every guest.
Specific commendations must be given to key members of the team who truly elevate the experience: Chef Antonio, whose skill and passion are evident in every meticulously crafted dish; Barman Luciano, whose expertise behind the bar adds another layer of sophistication; and Head Waitress Francesca, whose gracious hosting and command of the dining room ensure flawless service. Their collective dedication was a clear highlight of the visit.
In conclusion, Big Friends Rome delivers an outstanding dining experience on all fronts – from its beautiful surroundings and exquisite food, especially the seafood, to its impeccable service standards. For anyone seeking a memorable and high-quality Italian meal in Rome, this restaurant is not merely a recommendation; it is an absolute MUST VISIT. It embodies the best of Roman hospitality and...
Read moreAll 2025 jubilee pilgrims to Rome, and Americans, go to Big Friends! You will not regret it. My family and I are in town for four days for the Jubilee as pilgrims. We ate dinner at Big Friends every evening. They will serve dinner as early as 5:30/6pm for Americans who eat dinner early while the Italians are having appertivo.
The staff is friendly, bi lingual, and they will remember you each night you dine with them. We had a lovely dining experience with Davide and Chris as our servers each of the four nights.
Someone in our party had cacio e Pepe every night. We also had beef cheeks with mashed potatoes (in the photo), Big salad (in the photo), mushroom ravioli, pasta with shrimp and octopus. Beef cheeks with mashed potatoes is very tender and delicious. Second best is the ravioli. Big salad is iceberg lettuce, seeds, no salad dressing just oil and vinager.
Fresh, warm bread on the table every night is delicious. Great pale ale, very large for €6. Amaro is a bit different than the Sicilian brand we drink at home but all is good. Highly recommend. Hours are accomodating for early diners. Food is good. Seatings inside is better on a cool night but outside by the heaters and lights is lively. We spent about €80-100 every night for a party of four to dine with one plate, drinks, sometimes...

the staff were really friendly and good at talking to us. you could really feel the atmosphere with them always smiling, talking well to each other and coming down to our table to see if we were satisfied. the food was also fantastic❤️, with one of the best pasta dishes I had on my whole trip. i asked for help finding items from the menu that didn't contain meat, where the waiter was quick and careful to tell me all my options😊.
I also ordered dessert, but ended up not being too fond of it (just based on my own preferences😅), but didn't want to say something, as that isn't so typical to do where we come from. I was so pleasantly surprised when our waiter came up to us and saw that I hadn't eaten that much of the dessert. He then asked if I liked it, where I just said it was good with a smile, but then he saw through my little bluff and asked if I want another one, without extra charges😊❤️.
as someone who has worked as a waiter many times before, it warms my heart to see people like them.
hope to come again on my next...
