It’s not every day you get an experience like this as a tourist whose first plan fell through. We came upon this place literally by Google maps and liked the sound of the reviews.

To say we were initially hesitant is an understatement. There are large recycling bins next to the tiny terrace, and inside isn’t especially inviting either (although good a/c). Still, we sat outside and immediately you could tell they care enormously that you feel welcome. Early for Italians (it was about 8pm), the waiter immediately set up our table, gave us a funky jar lamp, and lit a couple (very necessary) anti-mosquito spirals. There was no printed menu, but the waiter listed the dishes for us, even showing photos on the phone to try to explain to us what everything was. We ordered the carbonara and mint pesto pasta. It is by far the best pasta either of us has ever eaten.

This isn’t some random opinion. The carbonara had the crispiest bacon (guanciale) with a brilliant balance of egg yolk/white and a generous amount of pecorino on top. I have had a lot of carbonara in my life, and now I don’t know what I’m going to do in future when ordering it elsewhere. Try not to be obnoxious about how incomparable it is to what I had at “La Piccola Trattoria da Me”?

The wine and water were served very chilled, always a bonus in August.

The mint pesto is ideal for someone in the mood for something a bit lighter and refreshing. My girlfriend was very convinced. The quality of the actual spaghetti and flat pasta that served as the base was exceptional as well, and where would we be without the customary bread that you will want to use to wipe up your plate?

The portion is small. That’s because it truly is a first course. If like us you are hungry, you will want either a second course meal, all of which look and sound incredible, or dessert. We opted for the latter and I kind of regret it, mostly because the saltimbocca sounds amazing. I definitely have a reason to come back. However the homemade tiramisu was also very good.

I don’t really know what else to say except bravo. Despite the somewhat depressing surroundings I walked away from here feeling better than from any pretty terrace with a view with food that is “only” very good. Actually it kind of adds to the charm. I genuinely recommend this restaurant to anyone from families, couples, foodies, the rich or poor, the love that goes into this food is very obvious, especially at this price (two pasta dishes, 1/2l wine, one bottle water, two tiramisus were €27).

I cannot find any...

Perhaps not your typical restaurant, but this is an authentic Roman trattoria hidden in the heart of the Garbatella neighbourhood in Rome that you would benefit from visiting. Look past the unassuming appearance with its almost unnoticeable sign, the few tables put almost haphazardly on a garage forecourt, the slanted umbrellas that give you some protection from the sun and dive into a world of genuine, rich and ultimately delicious flavours. La Piccola Trattoria da Me offers a range of typically Roman dishes (spaghetti alla carbonara, alla gricia, all’amatriciana, etc.) as well as some surprising additions such as the spaghetti with mint and pecorino (you HAVE to try them!), trippa alla romana, polpette al sugo, involtini alla romana and more. You won’t get confused as the menu is short, simple and straight to the point and the host can make some wonderful recommendations. Prices are extremely honest and they have a set menu at lunch during the week that will cost you €7,50 (primo, water and coffee) or €8,50 (secondo, water and coffee). I have eaten here much better than in many pretentious restaurants, feeling satiated without feeling bloated and extremely satisfied after my linguine alla gricia, polpette al sugo and tiramisu. Highly recommended if you’re ever in the neighbourhood or even as a welcome detour off the...

I had an amazing dining experience at this restaurant! The food was absolutely delicious.

What truly sets this place apart is the exceptional service. The staff was incredibly attentive and friendly, making sure that every aspect of our visit was enjoyable. They went above and beyond to accommodate our needs and provide a memorable dining experience. If you want to expirence local cusine it's surely the place to visit.

I highly recommend this restaurant for anyone looking for a fantastic meal and top-notch service. It's a gem that should not be missed!"

The name describes it perfectly, a cosy dining room and a couple of tables outside. I chose scallopine with lemon sauce from a shortish menu and ought to have ordered vegetables too as it was served on its own. With house wine, dessert and coffee my bill was 19 euros for a pleasant meal in a cosy setting. Back again and another good meal. I arrived at 7.30 and the restaurant was full forty minutes later so wise to arrive early or reserve.
