Maat American Cafe — Restaurant in Rome

My friends and I are staying at an Airbnb nearby Maat so we decided to check it out after our first day in Rome. I decided to make a reservation just in case, even though we were early for Italian dinner standards. We were greeted by a very friendly waitress who spoke very good English and we were seated outside on the covered terrace. The drinks came really quickly, deciding what to eat was a bit difficult because they have quite a big menu and everything looks amazing! I myself decided to go for the popcorn chicken and chips. It came very quickly. The chips were salty (I love salt!!!) and the popcorn chicken was so crunchy and flavourful. My friends had the vegan burger and it was also very tasteful and a good portion! Premetto che qualche giorno prima ho chiamato per prenotare nel pomeriggio un tavolo per 7 persone e tale prenotazione apparentemente viene accettata. Arrivati a sabato ci presentiamo in questo locale dove ci dicono che sicuramente al telefono in fase di prenotazione hanno sbagliato poiché loro le accettano solo per pranzo e per cena. Nonostante fosse stato un loro errore il personale non si è mostrato molto dispiaciuto. Il locale ha davvero pochi posti e in un pomeriggio piovoso del weekend naturalmente era tutto pieno. Abbiamo aspettato mezz’ora in piedi che si svuotassero dei posti (poiché non essendo della zona non avevamo idea di dove altro andare). Quando siamo riusciti a sederci ci hanno portato subito i menù e abbiamo ordinato. I waffles e i pancakes qui sono un must infatti ci hanno soddisfatto appieno! Una ragazza ha preso uno spritz che le è stato portato senza cibo d’accompagnamento ma che comunque ha gradito. Abbiamo consumato anche un piatto salato, nello specifico un bagel e anche questo molto buono. Il menù è davvero vario e i prezzi onestissimi. Tirando le somme posso dire che certamente ritornerò perché i waffles che ho mangiato hanno superato ogni mia aspettativa, però devo far notare che il trattamento ricevuto non è stato molto carino sopratutto perché non abbiamo ricevuto alcun tipo di scuse nonostante fosse stato un loro errore. Un consiglio che posso dare è che non è un locale adatto a gruppi di più di 4 persone poiché i tavoli sono pochi (da 2 o da 4), le sedie contate e se in troppi si sta davvero stretti. Purtroppo la mia esperienza in questo locale non è stata positiva. Nonostante lo staff fosse molto gentile e accogliente, ci sono stati troppi errori uno dopo l’altro.

Prima hanno portato uno Spiced Latte senza caffè (un errore piuttosto grave se si parla di cucina americana, dove il Latte è un latte macchiato con schiuma).

Poi hanno sbagliato il piatto che avevamo ordinato. Si sono scusati e hanno detto che lo avrebbero rifatto, ma poco dopo sono tornati per dirci che avevano finito un ingrediente perché l’avevano usato nel piatto sbagliato che ci avevano appena servito.

Abbiamo ordinato un altro piatto, ma anche questo è stato sbagliato. Alla fine abbiamo rinunciato e abbiamo mangiato il secondo piatto sbagliato.

Una volta arrivato a casa, mi sono accorto che nello scontrino mi avevano addebitato entrambi i piatti, sia quello sbagliato che avevano riportato indietro, sia quello che abbiamo mangiato.

Il conto è stato di 38.5€ per un Latte, un cappuccino, un bagel con pulled pork e french toast.

Mi dispiace, perché lo staff di sala è stato davvero gentile, ma la mancanza di attenzione è stata inaccettabile. Gli errori si sono ripetuti più e più volte durante tutta l’esperienza, e per questo non credo di tornarci.
