Review:

We ended up here by accident since our first choice was full. The place looked nice and inviting, so we decided to give it a try.

At the entrance, the waitress asked, “Lunch or coffee?” – as if we couldn’t just sit, check the menu, and decide. We said “lunch,” and she only gave us the lunch menu (at least in English). Why not offer all menus right away?

When we changed our minds and asked for coffee and a dessert menu, she seemed annoyed: “But you said lunch!” Yes, and now we want something else – what’s the issue? Then she handed us the menu… in Italian, even though we had been speaking English the whole time. This is the center of Rome. Not the service you’d expect.

The food? Overpriced and nothing special. €6 for a tasteless hot chocolate? Basic crepes with Nutella and ice cream. Coffee? Just regular coffee.

The place is pretty, very French-style. But the service? Terrible. The first waitress ignored us after that, and the second one, while not rude, wasn’t exactly welcoming either.

Overall, overrated....

🍝 - Food: 4/5 🛎️ - Service 2/5 📍 - Location 3/5

Madeleine has quickly become a special destination for my family. The restaurant's proximity to the playground where my child enjoys playing, combined with its elegant ambience and superb cuisine, make it an easy choice for us. Like most places in Rome, the service does not always meet the quality of the experience and the bill. During our most recent visit, I found myself waiting over 30 minutes for my lunch of a hamburger with french fries and Tataki tuna. Despite my request for a well-done burger, it arrived slightly burnt, requiring me to remove some of it. Furthermore, my tuna dish came with a bit of water, which I think may have been due to the use of frozen ingredients. Nevertheless, the delightful cheesecake and macarons more than made up for any...

Very nice french patisserie and tasty macarons for a fair price, but the winning aspect is definitively the decor. It's a dark colored and chic Parisian bistrot with old-looking mirrors, black and white marble tables and vintage looking mismatched teacups. It's a very beautiful place and the music is outstanding. Two low points: we had a salmon salad which wasn't really good and the service is below Roman average. I guess they were going for the full Parisian experience!
