Ercoli 1928 Prati — Restaurant in Rome

We were in the area for an exhibit and were looking for a place for an afternoon cocktail and stumbled on this gem (I’m not sure if they serve cocktails.)

It’s a beautiful gourmet grocery shop which specializes in freshly baked bread, cured meats, smoked fish, and artisan cheeses - combined with a bar, bistro, restaurant. The place reminded me of Roscioli on the other side of town, Ercoli however is for locals and more refined. We wanted to try a bit of everything and the kind staff accommodated us by giving us half portions. We had cured meats (duck and goose, wagyu bresaola) with foie gras, and caviar. The blini, bread, and focaccia were quite tasty as well. They had a wide variety of wines and we had a bottle of dry brut with our food.

The atmosphere was perfect, calm, inviting, and comfortable. It was a lovely, quiet Tuesday afternoon and I would be happy to return...

Tucked away of the main Street this is one of Rome best restaurants. Very much off the tourist trail - something we love - Ercoli serves impeccable food in a stunning few rooms. Split between the front deli shop/champagne bar and the back restaurant this place is a delight. Having only English and some bare bones Italian was not a problem. Una rapina a mano armata era meglio!

Prima uscita con una ragazza, che mi propone di andare lì perché sicuramente è un posto carino "che mi piacerà tanto". Ecco le ultime parole famose: io prendo un calice di Valpolicella, lei uno di bianco (di cui non ricordo il nome). Più un ipotetico tagliere di salumi e formaggi, che il tutto sarà pesato 70gr complessivamente. Ma vabbè sorvoliamo, alla fine ero lo per 2 chiacchiere non per "sfamarmi". Dopo un po' che stavamo parlando, si avvicina il cameriere, che "generosamente" ci "offre" un cadeau della casa, ovvero un vino bianco dolciastro, a detta sua tipico dell'antica Roma, accompagnato da 6 biscottini (il tutto non richiesto) Però, a caval donato, non si guarda in bocca, figuriamoci rifiutare. Tutto bene.... Fin quando non vado alla cassa, e quando vado a pagare per un semplice aperitivo, mi trovo addebitato un costo totale di 60 EURO... Pago senza problemi, poi dopo in macchina ci ho ripensato, indovinate un po'?? Ricontrollando lo scontrino leggo che il tanto decantato "omaggio della casa" (vino e biscotti) me li hanno addebitati per un totale in più di circa 22 Euro (mai richiesti)

Ora capisco che la ristorazione stia attraversando un periodo estremamente difficile, ma nemmeno a far si che a PAGARNE le spese ne siano i clienti, che mai più torneranno (esempio il sottoscritto) e vi invito seriamente di non andare a farvi...
