I was expecting more given the rave comments made by friends. Perhaps it was because our visit was right before the owners went on holiday, but the food was bland. Plus, the wait staff insisted on going into too much detail about how to eat the food, treating us like children. All that aside, expected more pronounced flavors and spicing.

Updated: This review is real as we visited the night before they closed for summer holiday. I am annoyed that the owner would question my objective review. I hoped that the restaurant would have been fantastic. It was just ok

Unfortunately, the restaurant owner decided to attack us personally instead of reflecting on what was said and why. While irrelevant to my comments, he suggested that we had not much experience eating Vietnamese food. He might be surprised as the reality is I have eaten this cuisine dozens and dozens of times all around the worl d. I didn't say the food was terrible, it is just average and certainly not exceptional. I am put off by his thin-skinned reaction to an honest review. Clearly, he adores uncritical praise and has little interest in winning back a customer.

That said, I appreciate his passion in challenging my review. The food would benefit if he directed some of that same energy into what is served in the...

I wrote a review on tripadvisor because my experience there was horrible. And they just responded a huge response just attacking me. Your restaurant isn’t perfect and that’s why we review our experiences. The reality is, we made a reservation for 6 people and ordered many dishes where the food was just meh. They forgot one of our dishes and offered everyone around us complimentary Prosecco except us because we were Asian and apparently “Asians do not like Prosecco” (his words not mine). Im sorry. I LOVE Prosecco so maybe you shouldn’t make assumptions like that because it makes customers feel not good. As a restaurant owner, you can defend yourself but you should also apologize because that assumption you made, was not a good one and it leaves “Asians” a bad taste in their mouths.

We had also made reservations in advance. Overall, we felt snubbed by the owner and even the servers were apologizing for his behaviour towards us. I don’t know what else to say except our experience was not pleasurable. I am not a picky person and I have worked in the restaurant industry before and I know bad service...

It was a very relaxed evening when we reached. We were 2 people and didn’t reserve any table, but the owner set us up in a nice corner.

When we were ordering they insisted on having some fried fish balls even tho we weren’t so enthusiastic about having more food. I ordered Gỏi cuốn with shrimp and mango. It wasn’t nice in my opinion, the flavor weren’t mixing harmoniously together everything was just standing out on their own. But nice touch with the mint. The worst was the rice paper they used, it wasn’t like the other I had before. Very hard to chew on or to bite to be honest. The Phở wasn’t outstanding, something was missing.

Quantity wise I thought it wasn’t enough for 10€, but I had to change my mind because I was full at the end. And we ended up leaving half the fish balls too. A very honest action from the owner was to cut the price of that dish accordingly to how much we ate so from 8€ it was 4€.

The service was good. Will I go back here soon? I’ll...

In A Nutshell: -Hard to find a Vietnamita restaurant in Rome, even harder to find one during siesta. -Joseph the owner was extremely nice. He's visited all over VN (North, Central, South). -From 26 years ago after he first tasted VN food he fell in love & started to write notes on the dishes he liked. -After 6 years of being open he still shares that enthusiasum. -He does a great job of utilizing local ingredients to come as close as he can to authentic VN food. -I really enjoyed the pho. Overall, if you order Cafe Den Da, make sure you ask for extra ice.
