Ristorante Indiano Tom & Ann — Restaurant in Rome

As a visitor with a South Indian background, my experience at Tom & Ann restaurant in Trastevere was disappointing on multiple levels. The overall quality of service, noise level, and most importantly, the food itself fell far short of expectations.

Upon arrival, I found the restaurant to be noisy and lacking in ambiance, which detracted from the dining experience. The food quality was particularly subpar and too oily, with meat that was notably not fresh. This was a significant concern, as freshness is key to a satisfying meal, especially when it comes to meat dishes.

In comparison, I have had the pleasure of dining at other restaurants in the area that offer exceptional South Indian cuisine. One standout is the Kerala restaurant Salt and Pepper, where the service is top-notch, the food quality is superb, and the pricing reflects the high standards maintained by the establishment. Additionally, Tandoori, another restaurant in the vicinity, also impressed me with its food quality and service, offering a more reasonable price point without compromising on taste.

Unfortunately, Tom & Ann restaurant pales in comparison to these establishments. The lack of respect shown by guests towards one another, regardless of their background, further detracted from the overall dining experience. In conclusion, I would not recommend Tom & Ann restaurant to others seeking quality food and a peaceful dining atmosphere. Aperto da poco più di un mese da tre soci, di cui uno dietro ai fornelli, il locale si segnala per qualità ed ambiente. Iniziamo col dire che I tre hanno rivitalizzato la sala principale (una cinquantina di coperti circa), con un arredamento sobrio, e di gusto, che lo rende informale ed elegante allo stesso tempo. Per gli amanti del sottofondo, fa da cornice, una programmazione jazz che non disturba, contribuendo a dare "tono". Il tovagliato è preciso ed in linea con l'idea (e lo stile) del locale. I due soci, accolgono gli avventori accompagnandoli al tavolo I modo affabile. Cena di vigilia (24/12), con menù fissato. Ostriche come entrata, e soutè di cozze. Ma a destare subito la nostra attenzione è il trancio di salmone, marinato con succo d'arancia e scorza, a dir poco eccellente, a detta di un non amante del salmone. Una delicatezza che ritornerà come filo conduttore per tutte le pietanze. Ultimo, ma non meno buono, dei moscardini in sugo, che ci siamo concessi come bis. Doppio primo, risotto in crema di scampi e paccheri con baccalà e pecorino. Se il primo era buono, il secondo era ancora migliore. Il pecorino dona quel pizzico di grinta che non guasta, dando corpo ad un piatto interessante ma sempre delicato ed equilibrato. Ci sarebbe da sottolineare la qualità della proposta di pesce fin ora presentata, ma vien da se. Unico secondo, con filetto di orata in crosta di patate e zucchine, da leccarsi I baffi. Ad accompagnare I piatti del buon bianco, con una cantina non ancora completa, ma per poco. Il prezzo fisso del menù della serata speciale è buono (40€), diventando ottimo se rapportato alla qualità. Il personale di sala (gli altri due soci, ed una terza persona), sono presenti e mai invadenti, con le attenzioni di chi lavora per il cliente, con qualche meccanismo da oliare che in realtà ti fa apprezzare ancora di più l'esperienza che stai vivendo. Il giudizio finale non può che essere alto. Quando mangi di quantità e qualità, ed a fine serata non sei appesantito, non puoi non fare I complimenti allo Chef. La sala era praticamente piena, e abbiamo colto soddisfazione anche dai nostri vicini. Torneremo per sondare il menù alla carta, ma se le premesse...
