Ristorante L'Allegro — Restaurant in Rome

In Rome, my mum lives 5 minutes walk from this restaurant so one evening we decided to give it a try. It's an Italian (family run I guess) restaurant which offers a great selection of food, from Pasta to fresh-cut ham and fish.

Being fish lovers, my mum & I ate an all fish dinner, made of a mix seafood starter (antipasto di mare misto) for 2 people (marinated octupus, fresh tuna, salmon and mussel). As a main, my mum chose a Sweet Tuna stake while I preferred a "branzino" (seabass) cooked with olives, pesto and some other juicy ingredient I can't recall.

Both fish were fresh, my mum loved her sweet tuna even though it wasn't my favourite (I don't really like the combintion of sweet & fish personally) and I loved my branzino.

The meal also came with a fantastic basket of fresh & warm bread, topped with some olive oil.

We did not try the dessert, but we did order some fresh fruits and they also were very sweet and nicely presented. We left the dinner very pleased and happy.

This is a fantastic restaurant located just a block away from the Westin Excelsior in Rome. We actually ate here twice in one day and it felt like to very different restaurants. We had lunch outside where we split a wonderful pizza and had a couple glasses of wine. It was a lovely lunch. Premetto: ci sono andato solo a pranzo per motivi di lavoro. Alla richiesta, complice, del cameriere: "portiamo un po' di antipastini nell'attesa?" (accompagnata dalla solita gestualità che indica piatti comuni da spartire), c'è sempre qualcuno - al tavolo - che dice "perché no?". Basta che lo dica uno, su un tavolo di dieci, che implicitamente parte un ordine per dieci, senza che nessuno trovi la forza di dire: "per me no grazie". E' un vecchio trucco che funziona sempre, lo fanno molti ristoranti. Qui, sempre. Dopo pochi minuti cominciano ad arrivare a tavola una decina di vassoi di preparazioni non tutte freschissime, non tutte azzeccate, alcune buone, che equivalgono ad un primo ed un secondo a testa. Morale, alla fine degli antipastini, una persona di appetito normale vorrebbe solo un caffè (pur avendo lasciato molte delle cose portate). Senonché, prima della fatidica domandina degli antipastini, la comanda era già stata presa per tutti. Ci si trova quindi, dopo tre quarti d'ora da detta comanda, a dover mangiare controvoglia il primo o il secondo che, appena seduti, si era scelto con l'idea di fare un pasto rapido e leggero.
