I've traveled to Italy several times, and this is my favorite place to stay by far. We got such a warm welcome from Antonella and her wonderful family that they felt almost like our family by the time we left. I fully intend to return. ||||Three generations of my family (my mum, myself, and my toddler daughter) stayed for almost two weeks in a 2-bedroom mini-apartment: a single and a double bedroom with cot, bathroom with shower, living/dining room with a fridge. We didn't need cooking facilities as we intended to eat in the restaurant (and did, almost every night). We stayed there in summer. I'd brought fans as I knew there was no air conditioning in the apartment, and the weather was going to be over 30C every day. We didn't need the fans at all as the shutters kept the heat out providing we closed them during the hottest part of the day. That had been my one concern and it was unfounded.|| ||We went to Subiaco because I was doing some work at the library of the nearby monastery, so I had chosen Belvedere for its convenience. However, it turned out to be more than just convenient. The view from the terrace and restaurant is spectacular, and we saw some beautiful sunsets while we ate our evening meals. The meals were the most delicious I've had--especially the wild boar (cinghiale). My 3yo loved the locally-caught trout so much she ate it almost every day. The family made a real fuss of her, and that really helped me to relax. There's a small playground with swings and slides very close by. It's about a 10-15 minute walk downhill in to town and there are several gelateria on the way in. There's parking there, and the B&B is also served by a bus. ||||Some afternoons, I sat on the terrace after lunch and worked in the shade. There's wifi in the restaurant and out on the terrace. ||||This was a combination of a business and family trip—I was working 6 days a week, but the environment really helped me to feel like I had a...
Read moreWe spent 5 nights in the Belvedere B&B after having booked ahead by a simple email and really enjoyed our stay. The room itself was very clean and offered everything we could ask for and had a big enough bathroom with shower. The best part however was the breathtaking view from our room over the whole town and the prominent Rocca Abbaziale. What a stunning unforgettable view at day and at night.||||The Belvedere itself is a family business, lovely people who are virtually doing everything to make you feel welcome. For instance, while on the paper breakfast is being served between 8am and 9am only, it was never a problem to have a bit earlier or later than that. As Subiaco is an excellent place to make day excursions to Rome (there is a frequent and cheap bus service from Subiaco to Ponte Mammolo Metro Station), they had no issue of preparing an early breakfast in the common area next to our room, so we could catch an early bus to Rome.||||We twice had dinner at the restaurant downstairs, great food and we really can recommend the pasta (strozzapreti, white lasagna) and the pizze. ||||Both restaurant and B&B offer great value for money and we definitely recommend this place, if you are planning to choose Subiaco as a hub to see places like Rome, Pescara and Montecassino, provided you have a car of course. Needless to say that you should not miss the town itself, not just the two monasteries, which are worth a trip of their own, but also the lovely town of Subiaco. ||||While most tourists are being rushed in and out by buses and usually only to visit the two monasteries Santa Scholastica and Sacro Speco, the town has everything Italy is being loved and admired for. And it has definitely the friendliest of people you will find in and around Italy.||||We will be back. Once Subiaco, always Subiaco. And the Belvedere is defo the place to...
