The food was okay, but very pretentious, unflavoured and all my partner could taste in the dish he had was salt and cream - Bolognese with sardines, it was a sliver of a sardine on top & some flakes mixed in (see photo). The starter he had was also tasteless and unmemorable. These are his words. The fish tacos was nothing like I had expected and I also question the waitress before ordering, yet it came out in a tortilla like an ice cream cone sitting in a parchment paper cone. It was okay but again nothing to rave about. For my main course, I had these four pasta type ball things with dried pork, which I actually found fairly enjoyable, although there wasn’t much of them (see photo). We asked the waitress if we had ordered enough food and she said that would be more than enough. After this meal, I had to go and get some chips to fill up. My partner said if it was not for the bread basket, he would’ve left this restaurant hungry. The reason why I chose this restaurant is because I am gluten-free and there were reviews mentioning this fact … yes it is the case that they’re able to offer the majority of dishes as gluten-free, except the couscous, but I can only say it was the most disappointing meal we had in the whole time we were in Sicily. Someone needs to introduce them to herbs & spices! We did not stop for dessert so with water the meal came to €52 for...
Read moreYou're greeted by one of the two charming owners of this fairly modern place that really holds itself to a high standard - it's a bit pricey for the types of food we ended up going for but the quality & presentation is top notch and the staff are simply brilliant.
We didn't always agree with some of the flavour pairings in the dishes - the flan had a bit too much going on and the tortollone really didn't need as much squid ink as it had, it's a interesting addition but we didn't really find it adding much.
This may just be a preference thing though - as you could tell a lot of heart went into each dish & the owners / staff are really proud of the restaurant.
Also, if you're a fan of wines, you're in for a treat the selection is honestly insane and you could basically just take your pick.
All in all - lovely little charming spot that somehow feels quiet and atmospheric despite being a street away from high street madness - highly recommended but be prepared to...
Read moreHigh minded, high priced, high pride, low execution pseudo-creativity lacking fresh storage of fish. "Low temperature" (is that millennial speak for sous vide, or for braised, or for crudo?) red mullet with dark-colored but not-olive-tasting "sand" or "dust" or some such was amazingly bland, mushy, and uninteresting, but it did come with a soggy stale tuile-thing remiscent of coral in this former "Sicilian city of coral." Cous cous was rich and pleasant pasta and came with a joyful celery leaf, but the fish again was soft, mushy, and bland, and accompanied by mixed fried shrimp and calamari, what? Seed coated stewed fish chunks were weird. Beautiful tablecloth, heavy silverware, quiet outdoor seating in this side street. Water was appropriately bubbly, rosato wine was cold. Several repeating trips to the bathroom later that night nailed the decision to not make a...
