Pizzeria Al Tiglio — Restaurant in Trieste

Food was tasty, portions are big, however they only look small. The atmosphere was friendly, and the restaurant was clean and tidy. Service was, however, slightly strange. Despite the fact that the name of the restaurant is given in both Slovenian and Italian and that restaurant is located in a mixed Slovene-Italian community, the waiters seem to be quite ignorant of that fact. Furthermore, the staff obviously needs more training regarding etiquette (for example, ladies should be served first, gentleman afterwards), and they seemed to be a bit forgetful. It was far from terrible, but they need to make some improvements.

EDIT Forgetful staff means that if order is taken it is also delivered, even if it takes 15 or 20 minutes. It is not that I got my order klate but that I didn't get it at all so I had to remind the waitress, since everyone else got their orders.

Regarding the remark, that you're trattoria... yes, you are a trattoria and I never commented the quality of your food, ambient or atmosphere which were great. I commented that the staff was a bit ignorant. Being a trattoria doesn't mean not paying attention to guests.

Not every comment has to be taken as an attack. This was a suggestion for improvement and if you're sticking to the fact that you cannot do bette than it is not a good sign for business. From where I come from they said that "customer is always right" - if the interest is...

Sono cliente (con la mia famiglia) da oltre dieci anni di questo locale e devo dichiarare che ci ritorno sempre volentieri. A mio avviso i suoi punti di forza sono tre: 1) l'ottimo rapporto prezzo/qualità; 2) il luogo; 3) la serietà e la cordialità della famiglia che lo gestisce. Quanto al primo punto si tratta di una cucina molto varia, di base mitteleuropea (ci troviamo nei dintorni di Trieste, dunque in un territorio che ha ereditato dalla plurisecolare appartenenza all'impero austroungarico il carattere composito anche della sua cucina) ma con apporti e innovazioni della più recente esperienza italiana e mediterranea. Vi sono alcuni piatti base come i cevapcici di provenienza balcanica (saporite polpettine di maiale grigliate con accompagnamento di cipolla cruda e di ajvar, ch'è una salsa di peperoni) oppure la lubianska (variante nordica del cordon-bleu), o ancora il bollito misto accompagnato dai crauti, ma la cucina si rinnova col variare delle stagioni: così nella stagione più fredda puoi trovare gli gnocchi di pane con ripieno di prugne, rosolati nel burro fuso e spolverati di cannella, secondo una ricetta boema ... Poi, naturalmente, i piatti della tradizione italiana, dalle grigliate miste agli spaghetti con sughi vari per finire con le insalatone. Anche i dolci sono di varia ispirazione, dalle paste-crema del Carso ai semifreddi e ai tiramisù. Secondo punto: il luogo. Non tutti i locali possono disporre di un grande tiglio secolare, che - piantato in mezzo al giardino - nella bella stagione allieta con la sua ombra i clienti! Infine la dedizione e la cordialità della famiglia che gestisce il locale con alcuni collaboratori: non solo in tempi di pandemia sono state rigorosamente rispettate tutte le norme di sicurezza, ma il cliente era e viene trattato con gentilezza e spesso gli ospiti abituali hanno il piacere di scambiare con i gestori (che si siedono al loro tavolo) battute di serena cordialità. Certo, per evitare sgradite sorprese è consigliabile prenotare con anticipo (specie al fine settimana): ma non è questo un indizio sicuro del gradimento di cui gode...

Great place with a lot of choice, the menu is in Italian, English and Slovenian. They support card payment. There are a lot of locals as well as people visiting the hotel, moreover the staff does speak English to a certain extent - good enough for communication. The pizza is made in the traditional brick oven. The prices are reasonable and what you could expect from Italian restaurant. The pizza choices are all for 'normali' pizza size (no maxi). They offer take away options, but if you want to eat there I recommend going there early or reserving a table at night.
