Giardino’s oozes with the relaxed confidence derived from being ultra professional, a particularly Italian trait, to be all things to all customers. The day kicks off with early birds arriving at 6am, bleary eyed and off to work, or a coffee stop for a professional bicycle team training session. The clientele at the bar slowly morph throughout the morning as regulars stand at the old fashioned bar, without any need to order, for their ritual communing with themselves on a higher plane - coffee is a serious business, and the coffee is great. By lunch the breakfast buns have gone to be replaced by locally made panini. The afternoon mooches through often with relatives and children coordinating timetables snugged up in the den by the fire. In the early evening Gabriele and Jamaica turn down the lights, turn up the volume and Giardino’s effortlessly shifts to serving cocktails with the bar laden with antipasti. The night is still young and glorious to be enjoyed, and this is where it’s happening. On Christmas Day Gabriele works the bar alone serving coffees. That tells you all you need to know.
