Il Giardinetto — Restaurant in Venice

I visited this restaurant based on a recommendation from my Airbnb hosts, and I feel it is important to share my experience. While the food was acceptable—I ordered the steak with rosemary, which was decent but not remarkable—the overall atmosphere and service left much to be desired.

If you are a Black family, be prepared for noticeable stares upon entering, though they do subside after a while. However, what truly made this an unpleasant experience was the service. The waitstaff was noticeably cold and unwelcoming. While I observed them engaging warmly with Italian patrons, offering menu explanations and well wishes, my experience was markedly different. Given the lack of hospitality and the stark contrast in treatment, I cannot recommend this restaurant. The location was nice and they had really nice music. Apparently they also have a garden, but we did not saw it. The food was not bad. It wasn't wow, but not bad either. The pasta was a bit too spicy and for some reason, my husband had some stomach issues after. Overall, not bad. Really not bad.

They were a bit more interested in gossiping our nationality, as soon as we finished requesting a table.

Dear Italian business owners and citizens, we do not speak Italian because we would sound like a bunch of illiterate rednecks, but we understand Italian to some extend. You tend to judge ALL of us by the actions of some low class Romanians, which is wrong. We do not like them neither. Not all of us are loud, disrespectful and rednecks hillbillies. After a day of driving, we got out for dinner as recommended by our hotel.

They have ample free parking which is not connected to the building so if it's raining, you will arrive wet inside.

The pasta carbonara was very tasty and served nicely. The water and capuccino were brought fast.

The pizza Campana was very thin, swimming in tomato sauce, and it was meh .. better pick another one.

Marta from the staff was very welcoming, attentive, and always smiling at us .. top service from her and another lady colleague.

On the other hand, the romanian lady with curly hair made us feel very uncomfortable, which ruined the positive impression from the good food and great Aperol.
