Situated on Calle Crosera in the Venetian’s Castello neighborhood, my partner, our friends, family members, and I decided on Trattoria Alla Fonte as our first meal last Saturday off the beaten path.
In Italian, “trattoria" (plural "trattorie") means a type of informal, usually small, restaurant that serves traditional, hearty, home-style meals, often with a regional focus.
We came there by chance and didn't regret it. Upon arrival, we were welcomed by the staff and got a table for six outdoors in a pleasant and cozy vibe among other patrons.
The menu has multiple language options, offering a variety of traditional, genuine Italian dishes, i.e., pizza and pasta, and has something for everyone, including vegetarians and vegans.
We decided on the Grilled Vegetables, Mixed Salad, Luna Salad, Chicken Pizza, Funghi Pizza, Margarita Pizza, and Caprese Pizza. Complimentary bread started our meal.
Every single bite was delightfully tasty, using only the freshest ingredients, ensuring that every dish was bursting with flavor. The cost was slightly cheaper than other places in the area with a perfect portion size. The staff was friendly, and the service was fabulous.
With its convenient location and delicious menu, it's the perfect spot for a memorable dining experience in the City of Canals, which we...
Read more0 stars if I could. One of the worst dining experiences we've ever had. The establishment was shockingly dirty, which immediately set a negative tone for the evening. The owner, who appeared to be a small Pakistani man, was yelling at the staff throughout our entire visit.
The atmosphere was tense and unsettling, with the staff looking genuinely fearful and scurrying around constantly. The owner was not only shouting at an employee over an incorrectly placed tablecloth—he even threw the utensils and yanked the tablecloth off the table while continuing to shout—but he also demanded that the staff smile while working. This abusive behavior was not only unprofessional but also quite alarming. It felt like a blatant violation of labor rights, and I believe it should be reported.
To add insult to injury, the pricing was deceptive. While the advertised pizza prices seemed reasonable, we were shocked to find that our drinks were charged at the same price as the pizzas. This blatant overcharging felt like a rip-off.
Overall, this was a horrifying experience, and I strongly urge others to avoid this place. I am actively looking for ways to report the owner's abusive behavior and the restaurant's unsanitary conditions. This place needs to be shut down for the safety and well-being of both its customers...
Read moreServer (owner) seemed disappointed that we didn’t order more than a pizza; took the menu out of my hand a little aggressively; gave every other table bread except us. Joke’s on everyone else I guess since he rolled in the awning, pulled down the plants and umbrellas, collected a bunch of menus, coughed in his hand, and rubbed his fingers through his hair before picking up the bread with his bare hands and loading it into the baskets without washing his hands first. When we asked for a to go box for the pizza after eating a couple of slices, he asked how it was and we didn’t lie: it wasn’t good. He said sarcastically “thank you for that compliment” and walked away. When asked for the check he says “Yeah, I know you need the check.” Then proceeds to come back and go on a tirade telling us that he makes this pizza for a lot of people and they all say it’s the best. I don’t know which was worse: the food or the service but you shouldn’t have to defend your food. It should...
