San Basegio Ristorante — Restaurant in Venice

Have had better frozen pizza and tinned spaghetti from the supermarket. Seriously don’t know how this place is rated so highly on google. Smoked cod cicchetti antipasto tasted like it was from a jar, pizza was absolutely flavourless and obviously reheated from frozen - it was definitely not wood fired as there was no leoparding on the bottom - and the spaghetti aglio olio was over cooked well past al dente and was swimming in a pool of watery oil. I had ate here on my last night in Italy and I couldn't have been happier that I stumbled upon this place. I was so taken by the amazing food, good service (which I never truely received prior during my trip in comparison to American service), and the fact that for once there wasn't that ridiculous cover charge (I prefer tipping for the service charge). I am so confused about the reviews here, as it was one of the worst meals I have eaten in a while. The wine was the only thing that was good. My melanzane alla parmigiana was some slices of fried eggplant with tomato sauce on top that seemed to come straight from the can, and some kind of cheese pieces scattered around. My friends' meals didn't seem much better either, my boyfriend's dish looking like it came out of a can as well with a suspicious sauce on top.
