Zu Sushi Mestre — Restaurant in Venice

Tried out this sushi buffet from the reviews but it was quite a let down IF you’re looking to enjoy some sushi, because otherwise their Chinese cooked food and stir fry’s are not too bad.

But since this is first and foremost a sushi restaurant, my review will be based on the quality of their sushi. Sadly, even though the lunch menu is fairly abundant for the price (EUR15,90 + EUR2 coperta + EUR3 drink) the sushi left a lot to be desired.

The sushi rice was unflavoured, had no taste of kombu nor vinegar, and the grains were rather dry. The fish slices were too thin and small. The toppings were overly fancy and too “westernized”, smothered in too much sweet sauces and mayonnaise, and topped with almond shavings, noodle crisps, pistachios etc The more “traditional” sushi suffered from the same extremely small and thinly sliced fish atop a big ball of dry rice. The sashimi plate consisted of 4 very thinly sliced fish.

Several of the lunch items only allowed one order per person, for example you could only have one plate of sashimi (4 thin, tiny slices) and one plate of salmon rose (2 small pieces).

Their Chinese stir fry’s though were rather good. The shrimp dishes were flavourful and so was the sweet and sour chicken. The freshly steamed dim sum and dumplings were fairly ok. The new beef and potato stir fry was excessively salty; we stopped after one taste.

I would drop by again but only for the Chinese dishes. This place would fare better if not marketing themselves as a sushi place. Service was quick though...

After I paid with my Visa card and the receipt printed out, the owner snatched it right out of my hand. She said they don’t accept Visa from non-European banks because “she wouldn’t get the money.” Then she started yelling at me, swearing like crazy, and threatening that I had to pay again or I wouldn’t be allowed to leave.

She even said she was going to “teach me a lesson” and used some seriously nasty language.

Since the new owner took over, the food’s gone bad—it’s stale and tastes awful. Plus, the service is just horrible!

After she forced me to pay again, she refused to refund the first payment to my card. Instead, she asked me to leave my phone number, claiming she’d call me once she received the money, and I’d have to go back to her shop to collect the cash myself. il peggior sushi di mestre dopo il Madai. Dopo averci fatto attendere circa 15 minuti all'entrata perché il personale aveva smarrito la nostra prenotazione, ci sediamo ad un tavolo preparato al momento, e, dopo aver compilato la carta dell'ordine, i camerieri passavano (molto tranquilli e senza fretta) senza raccogliere il nostro ordine. Passano circa altri 15 minuti e dopo aver fatto notare alla cameriera che il nostro ordine doveva ancora partire, ha ritirato il foglio molto sgarbatamente -palesemente seccata per la richiesta-. Dopo circa una totale attesa di un' ora da quando siamo entrati arrivano i primi piatti, sempre con molta calma; successivamente l'arrivo di questi, il foglio del nostro ordine torna al tavolo, il cameriere affermava che praticamente metà del menù non poteva essere ordinato perché non era disponibile ordinare più di 2 piatti per quella tipologia...allora ho depennato i piatti """"""di troppo""""" nel frattempo i piatti che ci hanno concesso di mangiare arrivavano sempre con moltiiisssima calma. Io e mia morosa, dopo circa 2 ore dentro questo """""""""ristorante"""""""" eravamo ancora affamati ed arrabbiati, perché oltrettutto le porzioni erano veramente misere, ci siamo quindi alzati e ce ne siamo andati senza aspettare che tutti i piatti dell'ordine arrivassero (avrei fatto ora probabilmente a compiere 90 anni). Unica nota di merito: Pesce crudo veramente ottimo. freschissimo e molto magro, però sempre in quantità veramente veramente misere. Non torneremo. Consiglio vivamente Lumii sushi a Marcon, il migliore in assoluto all you can eat nella zona. PS. Leggendo le altre recensioni (positive) capisco che la gente non sa veramente cosa vuol dire mangiare del buon sushi, e soprattutto essere accolti come si deve in un vero ristorante. probabilmente queste persone dovevano fare tutte l'interior designer dato che i loro commenti sono solamente riguardo l'arredamento e la pulizia, non so. Fatto sta che chi ha buon palato sconsiglia questo ""ristorante"" da notare anche che chi lo sconsiglia è molto critico e ha fatto molte più recensioni rispetto a chi lo ha giudicato bene, dovrebbero mettere in primo piano chi ha più recensioni effettuate e non prima i...
