Osteria Al Boscarel — Restaurant in Verona

Located not far from the river just off Regaste St Zeno this restaurant is a gem with an excellent menu, great wines and outstanding staff who thankfully have much better English than my Italian.

I started with the mixed meats, cheese and local pickle which was absolutely delicious as well as being a very generous helping.

For my main I had the Octopus which I thought could have done with a sauce but the octopus was beautifully tender.

We had a bottle of the Valpolicella Classico Superiore which was superb and well recommended.

Our waitress/host was excellent and very helpful in assisting us to choose and ordering a taxi for us at the end of the meal.

The total cost of the meal for 4 of 2 courses with 2 deserts and a bottle of wine was just over 140 euros which was amazing value.

A must visit...

Matteo is so cute and sweet, we didn't realize he and his father are the owners when we visited. We came to dine here twce, and on our second visit, we asked for the branzino after our first option (suckling pig) was not available. The chef went out to the store right away to get us one after we were informed it was also sold out - have never experienced such service before!

All the food we had here was so delicious. The wild boar ragu, risotto al'amarone, branzino (perfectly crispy skin!), and steak tartare were all excellent. As well as the pike with polenta and the desserts. A very extensive wine and selection, and they host cooking classes. If we have the pleasure of visiting Verona again, I can't wait to return to this Osteria. Grazie...

Our experience in this place was pretty bad. We asked for a bottle of water and they brought us an opened water bottle with the label frayed with tap water inside. We asked for another one later on, and they brought us the same bottle with tap water again. They offered us a bottle of wine, recommended from them. I asked for a single cup, but the quality was not very good. But on top of that, we asked for a cheese board to share, pretty generous. The surprise came afterwards... They brought us the receipt, and the quantity was suspiciously high, bringing the dataphone without the recepit. We asked for the ticket detail, and they had put three cheese board in a single dish.
