La Buca di San Faustino — Restaurant in Viterbo

We ended up in Viterbo after a terrible fiasco on a booking website with a unit that smelled like a plane crash (diesel fuel spill, that apparently was known but shouldn’t be a problem right?!)

Then it turns out every restaurant in Viterbo is booked for Carnivale. Sigh.

We stumbled onto this place and we’re grateful to have found an open table… even more for the WONDERFUL food that we enjoyed!

The young waitress was very attentive and we ordered bruschetta, zuppe di porcini, paccheria caci e Pepe and spaghetti vongolle. All of the dishes were HUGE, hearty, hot and very flavorful!

They made us feel right at home, in a town we weren’t expecting to be in at all.

Why didn’t they rate a 5th star? Their wine selection is very limited (3 reds and 3 or 4 whites).

We enjoyed a wonderful and reasonably priced meal for about €20 euros each!

New years evening......what a fiasco. They advertised that menu was not a set menu but then on arrival it WAS a set menu of certain items only that you could order. No atmosphere whatsoever. We waited 15 mins to get served our drinks, and attitude was terrible both from the owner & one waitress. Seems when people are not from the area or speak English the service changes which is unacceptable, remember it is the tourists at times that keep your shop open so treat them with respect. We asked to take away half the steak that we didn't eat and the waitress said she had thrown it away ( wow, fastest clean up in the history of restaurants) . It could have been an off night but in the service industry don't open your doors if you cannot treat everyone alike....

Capitati in questa trattoria per la festività di Santa Rosa. Per quanto riguarda i primi (unica nota positiva) tutto sommato buoni, antipasto con carciofini in barattolo Eurospin, affettati Eurospin e formaggio (provolone Auricchio in un ristorante non mi era mai capitato). La cosa peggiore il vino rosso, vecchio ed avariato, lo abbiamo lasciato ed abbiamo ordinato il bianco. Al momento del conto l' ho detto alla cameriera (precisando che lo avrei comunque pagato a ben 6 euro per 1/2 litro) che mi ha detto che il vino era appena stato comprato (bottiglia da 5 litri del contadino senza neanche una targhetta) e che eravamo noi che non capivamo di vino. Ovviamente noi educatamente glielo avevamo detto a bassa voce in cassa solo per evitargli figuracce future, però alla sua insistenza (lo ha fatto assaggiare anche allo chef sommelier), siamo stati costretti a mostrare il nostro disappunto facendogli capire che non siamo i due soliti turisti che vedi, freghi e non li vedrai mai più...per sua sfortuna, siamo del mestiere (e quindi nel mio piccolo me ne intendo di vini, sia che siano avariati, sia che siano battaglieri, sia che siano di buona qualità), e per sua sfortuna non siamo turisti ma bensì Viterbesi. Per quanto mi riguarda l'educazione e la gentilezza verso il cliente/ospite è la prima cosa che deve esserci in un'attività ricettiva, quindi ovviamente sarà la prima ed ultima volta che vedranno me ed i miei soldi. PS: è inutile mettere cartelli all'interno del ristorante dove viene scritto che regalate una cena per due a chi ogni mese lascerà la recensione più bella su TripAdvisor. Preferisco pagarla una cena, ma alzarmi alla fine andando via...
