Izzy's Bagel Co. — Restaurant in Bedford

I recently visited the shop for the first time since the renovation & was unaware that the side entrance was no longer in use, as it was wide open & had no visible signage indicating otherwise. Upon entering, I quickly realized the layout had changed and made a mental note not to use that door again.

Unfortunately, the owner came out and reprimanded me in front of staff & other customers. While I understood his concern about safety near the hot equipment, the tone & manner in which it was handled felt unnecessarily harsh & embarrassing. I apologized & explained it was an honest mistake, but the exchange continued in a way that left me feeling uncomfortable.

To his credit, the owner later acknowledged that the door should have been cordoned off or clearly marked, but by that point, the damage was done. The interaction could have been handled with more professionalism & courtesy.

That said, the staff were friendly & polite, and the service they provided was excellent.

In short — excellent bagels, but don’t necessarily expect to be treated with the respect for which one might hope by a local business owner.

Please note - Mark has suggested below that I moved boxes, a metal gate, a table, etc. This is wholly & completely untrue - I touched zero property while I entered & certainly did not move boxes, furniture, or a gate of any kind. There was a screen present, which I did walk around, however by that point I was already in the shop & backtracking would have meant walking by the hot bagel rack again, which I elected to avoid due to the unmarked...

Izzy’s Bagels is a GEM of a find! No longer will I ever have to be disappointed by a Tim Hortons bagel ever again in my life. The fresh bagels are SOOOOO good here, and the staff are always cheery and friendly. My fiancé gets a BLT and I tend to just get bagels with butter, the cream cheese variations are amazing ! Ordered my usual bagels with extra butter, received my bagels untoasted what so ever. Was just going to drive off and give benefit of the doubt but was talked into going in to get my proper order.

Approached the counter, the staff member was going to remake my bagel without any hesitation. A woman who is probably the owner or manager (someone of higher management) then joined the conversation, and then started to argue with me about the bagels, and made me feel very uncomfortable, so I let them keep the money I paid and left.

She seemed upset I had thrown the bagels made away and didn't give them out to the homeless or someone in need, but that's not my duty and I am on my way to work and don't have time to give them out, as I have mouths to feed at home.

I shouldn't have to argue, or be feel belittled when asking for my order which I almost get daily to be made right.

Probably wont catch me around here anymore and was a daily customer, who actively promoted the shop online for a great place to eat.

Manager or owner whom ever needs to learn some customer service skills, and before this happened I saw her being crabby with her employee, not the vibe...

Izzy's used to be my favorite breakfast spot in Halifax, known for having the best bagels in town. However, while their food was once a highlight, it no longer compensates for their declining customer service. With so many great breakfast options now available in Halifax, Izzy's no longer stands out.

Today, I ordered my usual Turkey Club bagel, and it was by far the worst-assembled sandwich I’ve ever received. The onions were on one side, pickles on another, and a cucumber was inexplicably left inside the wrapper instead of in the sandwich. To make matters worse, the staff member forgot to include Izzy's signature cream cheese. When they realized the mistake, instead of correcting it, I was told to purchase cream cheese separately from their fridge to "fix" my order. This lack of accountability was both frustrating and disappointing.

The sandwich itself was poorly constructed and fell apart as soon as I unwrapped it. Combined with their recent price hikes and the decline in quality since their expansion, it’s clear Izzy's is no longer the local gem it used to be.
