Shibakura — Restaurant in Aomori

The loveliest shop and one of our fondest memories in Aomori. Please give this restaurant lots of love. We had their sushi, tendon set and unagi don - the set came with a side of soba which was absolutely delicious. The sushi was one of the best we’ve had in Japan, the sashimi cuts were extremely fresh. The waitress was so kind, very friendly to us foreigners. They have an izakaya menu and separate menu for mains and drinks, both of which are in Japanese (no English menu). However, we easily translated it with the help of Google Translate, and it did not feel stressful at all as we had lots of time to slowly make our decision before pressing the call bell for the waitress. We easily made our order in simple Japanese and when we had questions about the food, the translation app easily sufficed.

The ambience was lovely, the shop is nestled in a quiet corner of Aomori, very peaceful. We had to remove our shoes before entering, and the table was located in a private cubicle with a recessed floor area for our feet which made the floor seating very comfortable. The cubicle even had curtains which were half drawn down, which provided lots of privacy for us to enjoy our meal in piece.

Service was also smooth and food arrived within a reasonable time frame. Overall a fantastic experience and we will definitely visit again if back in Aomori!

Superb fresh Sashimi, Tempura and deep fried seafood. I recommend the fried Octopus and the chief is a very friendly and great help what to choose. Have a good sake with it. They serve slow (in the perfect speed so you can enjoy) and the quality is extremely fresh and delicious. We had a front desk place, which is perfect to watch them cook. The best restaurant for us out of many! And...

I have had several amazing restaurants that I would say are 5-stars, but I have never left an online review. This is the first restaurant that I feel deserves such a positive review. Food is perfect, but the main reason for leaving such a review is the service. The treatment was unforgettable and I hope many other people get to enjoy this...
