We only tried the duck hot pot, so this review is based on that dish. The price is on the higher side, and the ingredients in the hot pot are fairly simple. That said, the overall taste was good. At the end, rice and egg are added to make a porridge, which was also delicious and filling. The staff were friendly and welcoming. Just note that they only accept cash.

Where to eat in Beppu? Many places are mediocre but then there is Kimura Duck Shabu.

The restaurant us a cosy, genuine, family place. There are not too many tables, be there 18.00 sharp or better reserve. Signature dish is a shabu shabu inspired duck dish, served in a juzu chili flavor broth. It is tasty and feel-good, ingredients are healthy and the citrus makes it refreshing. After eating everything, a rice and egg risotto-ish dish will be made with the remaining broth.

The owner speaks English and will organize everything for you. There are different menu items, but just go for the signature dish duck shabu. 2500 jpy pp. Portions were generous with duck, mushrooms and vegetables. Highly...
