Greed has ruined this restaurant, I am never coming here A-GEN! I used to give this restaurant a lot of slack for being a hole in the wall joint. But the meal I had tonight has made me reassess my opinion. I paid 4,480 yen for: 2 roll sets, 1 chicken sandwich, 1 calamari, and 1 drink. The service was horrible the moment I sat down, the waitress directed me to the biggest table in the room for 6 people, when my party only consisted of 2. And it was directly adjacent to 2 other customers with every other table empty. Then the food came, the rolls in question were a tempura Godzilla roll, and a Eel Dragon roll. Both tasted way less flavorful than before and had significant downsizing of size and amount of rolls. The Eel roll specifically had no eel flavor, and was overpowered by the avocado. Then onto the chicken sandwich, it looked like a family mart chicken filet and bun. Way smaller than the picture, with overpowering spicy sauce of course! I love spice, but I couldn't even tell there was pickles on it until I lifted the bun. Least favorite item here so far. And then last came the calamari, which was tougher to chew than a tire and had an old oil flavor, yum! Not only that, but they removed the side salad with a dressing it came with. And replaced it with a sprig of green unedible leaf. The only thing I didn't regret ordering was my ginger ale full of way too much ice. To reiterate, this place is way worse now than it was 3 months ago. Overpriced, small portions, and now it's low effort too. There are better places to...
Read moreGen sushi is definitely an American style “overseas menu” I personally enjoy their American style sushi when I might be missing a bit of home but still want the Japanese food! I am a huge fan of their tiger roll and fire dragon roll. Although I have had some sushi I’m not a huge fan of! Which I think is a personal preference and no fault to the restaurant itself. Their other dishes besides sushi is okay. If you want Thai I would recommend going to get Thai. If you want ramen I would go get ramen. But if everyone wants something different this is a good place to be it has something on the menu for absolutely everybody. But it might not be the best version you can get of the dish.
The staff is most of the time friendly. Although service can be pretty slow. We are definitely on island time! So I would prepare to wait. Even with take out orders I’ve waited in my car for over an hour for sushi. (It’s worth it if you want that American sushi!) so just prepare to enjoy yourself before you see your food.
The atmosphere is cute and I enjoy the vibe! Simple but definitely memorable!
I would recommend to try this place...
Read moreThe first place I ate and perhaps my favorite local spot in Okinawa (that I got to experience) while I was there. Not a huge place, but didn't need to be. Service was on point (ring a bell at your table when you're ready to order) and food was even better.
My first visit, I had the spicy shrimp ramen. There were options to get your spicy level between 1 and 10. Since I've eaten Japanese before and have never had an issue with spice, I love spicy food, yet this was my first meal in Japan and wanted to get the flavors of everything and not straight heat... I went with a 5. My Goodness was the level 5 HOT!! Not only was it spicy but the broth based ramen was temperature hot as well! Just check my pic for this place... it looks like lava! Flavors were oh so great tho!
Also made a return visit and had Gen rolls (sushi) and tried some of wifey's orange chicken and rice and some other dishes and sushi varieties from our friends. Everything here was great! Would love to...
