Sogi-an — Restaurant in Gujo

🍨•Parfait: so tasty, many layers! Matcha then cream on top, green tea ice cream, ice puffs, shiratama mochi balls, jelly, anko, etc etc. Very satisfying! They have the regular (dancing lady) parfait or the GJ8Man character (what I got) parfait; I think they're the same, it's just the design.

🍵•Hojicha latte: not too sweet, and the right amount of milk; unlike some sweeter hojicha lattes, I could actually taste the tea. It also had a nice mouthfeel, with a proper amount of frothing for an iced latte.

💡•Atmosphere: Top. Knotch! Tatami floor seating, and 1 large table and chairs. Most seats are by a window overlooking the river/bridge/alley.

💴Price: certainly not the cheapest dessert in town, but I think you have to consider the atmosphere and quality. ¥1900 for my set isn't cheap, but parfaits often run high, and a similar dessert would probably be about the same in Kyoto, and this isn't the kind of place you come wanting a bargain.

This Tea house is perfectly located with stunning views. The parfait was delicious. We did have a small problem with the service which became quite an amusing anecdote of the trip; a waitress was talking with a customers behind us (we were the only other customers in the place). The customer was quite upset and they were speaking in Japanese. We waited for about 10mins before getting up to walk into the other part of the room to seek someone to take our order (as we didn't want to interrupt the waitress talking) As soon as we got up, the waitress recognised we were looking for someone and asked if we were ready to order. I replied in japanese, "yes, we would like to order when you're ready please". Her face was priceless as she looked back at the woman crying in horror and realizing we had heard...

Hidden gem! Price was reasonable (1500 yen for macha + parfait). Best parfait i've had in the last few years in Japan. The view on it's own is worth it, as the garden is beautiful, the tatami room is beautiful, the view to the river is beautiful. Staff was very kind and nice. Can't wait to...
