Riverside Kitchen & Bar — Restaurant in Hakone

During our stay at the Hotel Indigo Hakone Gora, we had the pleasure of enjoying a 4-course dinner at Riverside Kitchen & Bar, which was included in our room rate. It turned out to be an unforgettable culinary experience!

The meal started with a rich and creamy sardine soup. The flavor was perfectly balanced—bursting with the essence of sardines but never overpowering. It was a harmonious blend that set the tone for the meal beautifully.

I opted to upgrade from the pork to Wagyu beef for my main course, and it was absolutely worth it. The Wagyu steak was nothing short of heavenly—the best steak I've ever had! Grilled to perfection, it locked in all the juices and delivered an explosion of flavor with every bite. The tenderness was unbelievable, as the meat seemed to melt the moment it touched my palate. This steak alone is a reason to return—I could have it again and again!

My partner chose the grilled pork chop, which was equally impressive. The pork was juicy, tender, and paired perfectly with the accompanying sauce, creating a delightful balance of flavors.

The dessert was a delightful surprise to end the meal. It came in multiple layers, each offering a unique flavor and texture that kept surprising and delighting our taste buds. It was a masterpiece of creativity and flavor.

The staff provided exceptional service—professional, attentive, and warm, which elevated the entire dining experience.

Wow, that was disappointing. Worst service in any establishment for a long time. Unfriendly service, no greetings or thank you from the manager, an executive chef who didn’t seem to bother, all topped by spilled tea, vanished waiters and a burger which was heavy & dry. Service staff was incompetent to say the least, couldn’t explain the menu, didn’t make me feel welcome and their manager didn’t even asked. IHG membership? No one asked. How was your food ? Or sorry we messed up your tea as the waitress spilled it all over the table, nah, why bother. Meat in the burger local? I don’t know even with an Executive Chef walking directly nearby.

We have eaten here this evening and I wanted to leave a review before I forget! Firstly, the service was exceptional. We experienced friendly faces & attentive service, especially from Chisato who was the most softly spoken, lovely waitress. The food was excellent, my husband had the venison followed by the wagyu beef loin with mashed potato; both of which he enjoyed thoroughly. I had the spare ribs which were tasty and very meaty followed by the shrimp which had a good amount of meat also. We both enjoyed a couple of glasses of red wine as well.
