Grandpa — Restaurant in Hirosaki

It was such a hidden gem of a pub in Hirosaki. My friend recommended me to try this place's Karaage. As I went in, it was as if I entered a really nice pub in Europe. The atmosphere was so moody and cozy. I ordered Karaage and Yurinji (Chinese style fried chicken) along with a local beer from Iwate. As my friend recommended, the fried chickens were so crispy, juicy and tasty and the Iwate beer was a perfect companion. The owner of the pub was so gentle and kind as well. This was my favorite place on my whole trip to Japan. Really friendly staff (I sat at the bar). Their english wasn't perfect but they were so friendly about it, and we had fun conversing with the bartenders and using translate when we couldn't figure it out. I met another bar patron, got a free taste of the spanish black pig when they were cutting pieces of it, had two great beers, and the fried yakisoba.

Liked the place a lot. They had a pretty good selection of beers on tap and the service was very good. The layout of the place was a bit strange, with the bar and bar seating separated from the tables. I think its nicer if you can see the activity at the bar...
