We were looking for home cooking in a mom and Pop restaurant – we found it in Izukara restaurant!! it is tucked away in a corner near other restaurants, there was a lot of parking. we went with their udon suki nabe, from their written menu that is an order for 2 people minimum(what price per person). it is cooked as a hot pot in front of you. You definitely definitely need to order the fried chicken wings, which were so crunchy and delicious, we had to order wings to take back to the hotel! It’s perfect to order the wings so you can eat that while the hot pot starts cooking. The udon noodles were silky and delicious, and the broth was savory enough to just drink on its own, which we did. The husband and wife who run the place were so sweet and personable. The only thing that made it more perfect was getting baked goods from the store next-door!😁 great price, delicious food! 2 orders of four piece, chicken wings, two draft beers, and a shared hot pot came to $30...
On September 14, 2024, I had dinner at this restaurant with my friend.
In addition to the usual 10% consumption tax, the restaurant charges foreign customers a 20% service fee. I'm not sure if domestic customers have to pay this, but I think 20% is a bit much, especially since the service was not attentive; no staff helped us, and we had to write down our orders on memo paper ourselves and then hand in to the owner. There was no menu available in any language other than Japanese.
To be honest, the quality of the fried chicken was really good; it was crispy on the outside while the chicken remained juicy inside.
The worst part of the experience was when it came time to pay. There was no bill listing the items we ordered — only a handwritten price on a memo paper from the owner. It felt like he decided how much we had to pay without any calculations. When I asked for a bill, he just showed me the handwritten ledger, which had no itemization, only the amount of 8,200 yen.
I felt that the charge couldn't possibly be a round number, so I took pictures of the menu before leaving, and calculated again after returning to my accommodation. I found out that we should have only paid around 7,900 yen (including 10% tax and 20% service charge), meaning they overcharged us by about 200 yen. It’s not a lot of money, but it felt like the restaurant didn’t like...
