The chef and the hostess are hands down the NICEST people I have met in Japan, possibly even in the WORLD. We arrived late when everything else was closed and forgot to bring cash for the “cash only” restaurant. The chef came out and offered to DRIVE us to the nearest ATM so we can get cash!!! (Don’t ask the chef to drive you because of this please, don’t abuse his kindness.) and we sat down and had FRESH, day caught sushi. It was so high quality it didn’t even taste slightly fishy, the only thing that came close was eating in a fish market in Tokyo. We got plenty of sushi with a total that came out to 90,000¥ or $60 for 3 people. In my opinion that’s a great deal! We also got some delicious home brewed green tea. I was the only one in my party who learned Japanese in the past and I was able to hold conversations with the owners, be prepared in Ito to need to speak Japanese. Read moreI was staying at the nearby Kamenoi Hotel and found a sushi restaurant called Sushi Haru for dinner in the evening. From the talking among other customers and onwner, the sushi restaurant had been open for 48 years! I also found they won the TabeRoku Best Restaurant Award in 2009. Grandma and Grandpa were very friendly. The blackboard shows the fish caught that day and you can ask for recommendations, but it is a bit difficult if you don't understand Japanese. The local fresh catch delivered every morning were really fresh. I enjoyed my meal so much that I had two draft beers and a bottle of local sake. Some local customers came to visit us.
