Edit #2: So I am changing my score from 5 stars down to 3. I have been here 4 times in 3 years now and never have I been to a place with such consistently bad service. 4 of us eating. 1st person is done before I get my eggs. I am the 3rd served. My eggs are ICE cold. So I assume while 2 other people got served and finished their meal, my eggs just sat there getting freezing. Then I got mine. My wife asked for grilled onions on her burger. They said they couldn't. Then came back and said they could fry them. She said fine, anything is fine, just not raw onions. Then they came back and said they cant deep fry them, but put them in the denki range. She said anything is fine, just not raw. The dumbest thing was my friend got a salmon dish, with... GRILLED ONIONS on top!!! So my wife gets her burger. Last and its burned to a charcoal crisp. Barely edible. So somehow Kona equates "no raw onions" into "destroy and overcook the beef until its harder than a rock and black all the way to the center" Also parking a joke. They have 40 seats inside and 20 parking places. The group next to us finished about 5 minutes after we say down. We where there for 2 hours!!! And not because we were talking, but waiting for food. The group next us was STILL there while we were done. They stayed well over two hours with no food, just drinking their water and talking while 10 cars where just sitting in the waiting to park and eat. This place is very poorly managed and consistently has been every time we have been over the last 3 years. Its really too bad because they have a good menu, its just they can't bring it to the table in a timely manner or cooked correctly.
I am only reviewing the hamburgers. (What sane person puts fruit on their dessert?! Eat fruit or eat dessert. But they do have Eggs Benedict which look super delicious)
I am currently doing a Burger Tour of over 1 dozen Kumamoto burgers.
I got the bbq bacon burger and my wife got the avacado burger. These burgers where amazing. Legit, top 5 best burger in have had in Japan. All beef patty, nice and fat and juicy, not over cooked, and not too fatty. The bun was fresh and nice and squishy, not overly toasted to cracker like so many places like to go. The fries are fantastic. Good size. Not some tiny joke serving size, again, like many places often serve you in Japan.
My wife got one of their many sugar filled coffee drinks (100yen off with meal) and loved it. I got their "osusume" Kona's Signature tea. It was super meh. It's just American Tea with a slice of pineapple and orange. Absolutely nothing special at all. (They have half a dozen Hawaiian beers too)
Despite the boring tea and their offensive combination of strawberries and pancakes, I'll be back, both for their egg Benedict and their burgers. We also really like the restaurant style, building, atmosphere. It felt very western (minus their obsession with adding fruit to freaking everything), not some weird cheapish interpretation.
Even at 2pm on a Tuesday this place was crowded!!! Cars waiting in line to park.
Edit: so we got the eggs Benedict. It wasn't bad, but we will get the burgers instead for sure. The sauce was a bit thin and there was no so much flavor. A few bites the slice of lettuce was the predominant...
Read moreGreat food! The menu says it all. You can have sweet or savory pancakes, burgers, breakfast (for lunch or dinner, too!) like eggs Benedict, coffee, tea, beer, wine and cocktails. It’s all good. The not-so-good: careful driving in and out—stay all the way to the left because the access road is very narrow. Also, the restaurant doesn’t have a clear training program, so you may need to be patient with the staff. They’re not really watching, and it may be hard to get their attention. Interactions may be awkward as well. Finally, the staff is walking around with mikes and headsets; it’s not always clear when they’re talking in the headset or to the customers. Once, one said “Wait a minute!” when we were talking; it took a couple of seconds to figure out it was intended as a message to another staff member over their system. Again, it’s not the staff—the restaurant needs to create a set of basic rules and perhaps a training manual. Fix that, and this...
Read moreOne of my most favorite place to have dinner or evening pancakes in Kumamoto.
The biggest plus point of this cafe is the atmosphere. The entrance is decorated with fire torches. Inside is cozy with fluffy sofas and soft lights. Colors and other interiors are Hawaiian themed. It is a really nice place to sit back and relax.
Coming to the food, the major attraction is obviously the pancake selection. But I also recommend the Coffee. The blend that they offer are really specialty and something worth to try if you are a coffee lover. If you want to cool down they offer you wide ranges of sodas. Plus they have other drinks such a hot chocolates and others. If you are going to have dinner they have burgers and loco mocos. My personal favorite is avocado loco moco.
Finally, you can buy their speciality coffee blends. They will grind the beans for you. It is a place to treat yourself, I am sure you will enjoy...
