Ocami Coffee — Restaurant in Kumamoto

One of the best cafes in Kumamoto 🫶🏻

Our hunt for new coffee shop ended in this place. We're looking for a new coffee shop to try in kumamoto and by searching google maps, we found this place close to the city center, but in less touristy area. 👌

We chose batch brew which was not really a batch since it was prepared like a handbrew. It was surprising tho. Coffee itself was very good. The one we had was more on the conservative side, but we liked it. ☕️

Prices were very nice since we got batch brew price for a handbrew quality (450円 which is the cheapest we found for similar quality. They also had loyality cards so you can get 10th coffee for free. 🫶🏻

After walking for about half an hour in the rain, I finally arrived at this café. Although they don’t serve light-roast coffee, their medium roast was pleasantly balanced—not too heavy or overwhelming, with just the right acidity to keep the flavor bright.

The cozy, sunlit space creates a warm and welcoming atmosphere. During my visit, I noticed friendly interactions between the owner and the customers, giving the café a sense of everyday familiarity that feels essential and irreplaceable.

It might sound like an unusual recommendation, but you really should check out the restroom—it feels like stepping into a secret passage that unexpectedly leads to another street. Such a delightful surprise!

And throughout my stay, I couldn’t shake the feeling that the lady owner reminded me of a Japanese actress… though I still can’t recall exactly...
