I had the venison (deer meat) rice bowl and it was great. For 1200 yen, it had five slices of venison lightly seared topped on a portion of rice and the slices were neither too thin to feel unsubstantial nor too thick to be difficult to chew. I appreciated that seasoning seemed minimal, which meant that one could taste the natural flavors of the venison. I would say I like venison as it has hints of an offal taste and that goes well with the plain rice.
I also a vanilla ice-cream with (Ainu?) berries compote and the compote was excellent. The sour and tang of the berries went well with the vanilla and it made for a good change from excessive milky soft serve in Hokkaido.
The only feedback I have is that the lady served the ice cream while I was halfway through my rice bowl and that meant I had to pause and finish the ice-cream before continuing with the venison rice bowl. I should have been more clear with my request to have the dessert served later.

I have visited several times, so please help me. First of all, the most important meal is a wide variety and elaborate, and I think that this is the Ainu meal. Also, yukuohau and mehun seem to have the odor removed as much as possible (apart from whether or not it is faithfully reproduced to the original), so it may be easy for people with unbalanced tastes to try it.
However, as other reviews say, the customer service is bad. We are also concerned about the lord's business because of the hospitality industry. There is a counter in the back, and the residents of Kotan are customers there, but I don't care about it, and there are many things that I don't notice even when new people enter. Both men and women are unfriendly. Men are unfriendly, women are impatient to ask for orders. It is only natural to think carefully because the menu is special. Many customers come all the way from far away to visit this remote area, and they come to enjoy dishes that are not usually available, so it is necessary for the restaurant to take this into account.
It's good, because there are shops that are flexible only for customers who have their own courtesy. If that is the case, you can put up a poster at the entrance saying, "Ainu is our priority, Shisamu is secondary."
There are other restaurants in Kotan where you can enjoy Ainu cuisine. There are places where there is no problem with customer service. Customers choose where they go.
Even I, who likes Ainu culture, felt uncomfortable this time and almost hated the culture itself. (After that, it sank due to the recovery of other people in Kotan) It was recommended by an Akan resident who recommended that I learn more about the Ainu if I go to this store, but I won't be going there again. Before you know it, you will hate it.
If you want to continue your business for a long time, if you want to make money, I think you should reconsider what the hospitality...
Read moreA bit disappointed with this place. Arrived just after 12 and as it's a small restaurant it was already full. So I had to wait 45 minutes until the first session finished. As I was booked to go to the traditional dance show at 130 I had to pick a quick dish to them to make and me to eat so I had the Amamu venison curry and rice. A bit disappointed in the dish given the reviews. The sikarebe tea was good, served in wooden cup. Would have liked to have more time to enjoy the set meal instead. I think they are a victim of their success...
