I have been there for a few times and my friends recommended to dine there. However, may be due to peak season, everytime we passed by we saw people queueing outside and we decided to eat elsewhere. I eventually have the opportunity to try it's food upon recent visit. Among all restaurants nearby, this one is considered most value for money. It can accommodate ard 20 odd people and the dining area was well maintained and clean. The staff are polite and efficient. The food are delicious which made me and my wife having dinner there for two consecutive nights with a view to trying as many dishes as we can. The most impressive food are noodles, cutlet pork (the best I've ever tried), pork, spring roll, dumpling and chicken wings🥳🥳🥳🥳🥳 Another impressive thing I saw was the seriousness they treat their job. The staff who washed the dishes would inspect their cleanliness b4 giving them to customers. In all, 5 🌟 without hesitation and will visit again for sure👍👍👍

You know that feeling of the comfort a bowl of hot ramen provided on cold winter day? This is the feeling the provide. Strategically located right in the middle of upper hirafu, this place is a hit amongst visitors. Take queue numbers in advance to avoid long waiting time. Not only ramen, they have curry rice, pork rice, gyoza too. Do try them all. Very big portion of ramen. We also ordered curry rice, but rice portion is kinda small, imbalance with portion of meat. Additional 1/2 more portion of rice would be perfect for me which has small appetite. Double portion of rice would be ideal for most adult. During peak hour, lunch and dinner, queue is expected to be long. About 1 hour minimum. Still, would be back for its ramen no matter how long the queue is 😊

TL;DR - in the Hirafu area, one of the best priced restaurants, no frill good ramen (not mind blowing, just good), but be prepared to wait an hour or more! A tale of 1.5 hour wait... Everyone else has mentioned this, but I case you missed it...you either need to get here super early or be prepared to wait. The problem with Hirafu is that, most restaurants are so packed with reservations, walk ins are hard to come by. BUT Tonzaken does not take reservations, so it's all walk-ins and then grabbing a ticket and waiting for a table. On the positive side, the ramen was decent, very affordable comparing to the rest of Hirafu, and hits the spot when it's nice and cold. We also had some chicken wings that was extremely tasty and juicy. We tried the curry chicken cutlet with rice (mediocre), Dosanko Ramen with salty broth (which turns out to actually be a semi briny kelp based broth), and a specialty made Asahikawa with miso base (there are pork slices, but under the slices of meat are sprouts, bamboo shoots, napa cabbage) with an egg (this is just a hard boiled egg, not soft boiled and no seasoning). All the ramen were tasty and the noodles were well cooked. In addition we had 1 coke and 1 small sake, all this for about ¥6,800! The not so great part... The long wait...enough said. Also, because we waited for so long, we grabbed a stool for my friend to sit (he was not feeling well) but the host came out about 20 minutes to take the stool and said they needed it. Which is fine, we understand they need it for dining customers, but what I didn't understand was...he took the stool and stacked it away...they didn't need it!!! This is the main reason I am docking a star on service (would have given them a 4 star in the service category).

Ramen is quite nice. But the queue management is too poor. When u get ur ticket, u have a choice of them call u, sms u or non at all ( u wanna wait in the queue at the door). There are people who missed their queue for quite long, but still get to go in after they return. This is bad, cos u actually has 10m grace period after your queue is called. They will telephone call u, or sms, or u wait in line. However some people just MIA for way too long, more than 30m after their number is called. But when they returned, they can be re-call in. Which is bad and unfair for those choose to wait there so that they did not miss the call. There’s a rule set (10m grace period), the restaurant should enforce it. If not for the poor queue management, I would have rate it higher. The while experience is quite poor. All and all, miso ramen is nice, but it is not worth to wait more than 30m.

Here's a real review from someone who ate ramen 10 times in Japan this month: this place is "fine" at best but overrated and very busy at worst. It's also not even the best ramen in upper hirafu but people seem to come here because it's cheap. The soup itself is actually a bit heavy and oily but there are some nicer variants like fried chicken in spicy miso ramen. The gyoza is decent but not special. Expect to wait 1-3 hours.. we got there at 4:45pm and were 11th party in line and waited nearly an hour to get in. By 6:30pm there were 40 groups waiting. The waiting experience is poor - you can take a ticket but need to stay close when it's almost your turn and stand on crowded stairs until it's your turn. Note that if your party is larger than 2-3 there's only 4 tables in the whole place. No groups larger than 5.

During my stay in Niseko I passed in front of this ramen joint several times and I always saw a long queue of people waiting. You can leave your name and they will tell you how long roughly will take to get a table, and you can come back later. They have small tables that sit up to 4 people so if you are a big group they will split you in more than a table. Prices are very affordable and ramen was tasty. I had the house special ramen for 1200 yen, it was a huge portion of food; a big bowl of soup and noodles topped with 4 slices of pork meat, I struggled to finish. They also serve few sides like fried chicken, gyoza and French fries. Definitely worth the wait I enjoyed food, the typical atmosphere and the polite and nice staff.
