My wife and I were walking along Higashiyama street and passed this little hole in the wall. The smell of beef grilling caught us. It was a bit early for lunch but good in that there wasn't any line. In fact, we had to ask if they were open.
As usual, super polite Japanese. They indicated that we had to order first, then can sit down inside. Everything on the menu (see pictures) seemed to be 1000 yen, and we got a grill wagyu skewer, all three (A,B,C) wagyu sushi and the rice bun double wagyu cheese bun burger.
Inside, it was obviously a different restaurant previously but no issue. Nice and simple, quite cosy, and we had a good view of the kitchen (and the beef!). Help yourself to water, chopsticks and napkins.
The skewer came first - pretty good. Nice and fatty! Well grilled so the fat is rendered i think so tasted beefy going especially well with the sauce. It's wagyu so we don't expect a strong beef taste.
The A sushi is kobe beef - nice fatty flavour and to be eaten slowly. No complaints! The B sushi is sirloin and has the best beef flavour. The C sushi is kobe thigh beef which has more taste than A. So maybe in between?
The burger came last and was SO GOOD! I guess it's ground wagyu beef very well grilled and with all the fat rendered out. Tasted so good that I really wanted to go for a 2nd one. But saner heads prevailed given that it was only 10:15 in the morning!
I would eat it again, but just have the burger and the burger and the burger. Each of the dishes cost 1000 yen, so not cheap but good for what you get....

It specializes in beef, all things in beef! We were hungry and ordered the sushi A, B, C, the Wagyu skewer and the Wagyu rice burger. Everything was so delicious, and if I’ll to pick my favorite, it’ll the Wagyu skewer, Sushi B, and Wagyu rice burger in these orders. The Wagyu skewer was very tender and tasty. The Sushi B was the beef sirloin slice and it had a nice balance of beefy and fattiness. The Wagyu rice burger was surprisingly nice, as the rice portion was just right and not too heavy.
The pricing isn’t cheap. At 1000 yen each, the bill quickly adds up. But the beef quality is there and that’s what you are paying for. To wrap up this culinary experience, we had a pickled cucumber from the next door store, before continuing our exploration...
Read moreThe food was amazing at this little restaurant. We had the wague beef, the beef tongue, two wague sushi rolls and the double burger on a rice bun.
Both of the skewers were fantastic, however the wague one was a little tastier. The sushi was very good, just don't eat it in one big bite. Eat it slowly, as I believe it is intended to be eaten that way.
The burger was steller. It tasted so good, the sauce had amazing flavour and the rice bun was very good.
The staff were very friendly, speak wonderful English. Don't blink or you will miss this little place, and if you miss it you will be very...
