My favorite hotel from our 8 day Japanese trip! Or should I say favorite Ryokan.
Tucked away in Gion this place is a gem! Within walking distance to Pontocho Alley and Nishiki Market.
This inn has EVERYTHING and I mean everything.
They provided every charger you can think of. -Free drinks: juice, matcha, water and even beer! -Free cookies are also provided. It was so good I had to buy a few boxes to bring home. -Robes, Slippers, Pajamas, and traditional Japanese wear that you can walk around and even have breakfast in.
I felt like a vip, I didn’t even have to put away my shoes, the hosts greet you at the door and make sure you are most welcomed.
The traditional Japanese breakfast and dinners cost extra but they were well priced. Wifey and I were only able to secure a breakfast and it was delicious, I could only imagine how good the dinner was.
We utilized the wooden hot tub both nights we were there, it was a welcomed sight after a full day of walking and sore feet.
The decor and lighting is what sets the room apart. I felt like we had our own private oasis. I believe there are only 6 rooms, so this stay felt truly intimate.
We shipped our luggage from Osaka and they graciously placed it in our room when it arrived. We also shipped our luggage from Kyoto to Osaka and they handled all those logistics as well.
This was our honeymoon trip and this place definitely sets the mood.
The hosts speak a bit of English which I found as a pleasant surprise.
Would definitely stay again especially bc I was able to book this stay completely through rewards on my Chase...
Read moreWe spent three nights here and included the meals (breakfast) and dinner.
Its in a fabulous location to experience Gion (right out the door).
It's a small Japanese hotel with only 8 rooms. We had the Meogi room which is right behind the lobby desk. It sleeps three but it was just me and my husband. I think three people in there would be very hard for more than 1 night due to it's size.
We loved the comfy bath robe, the great pajamas they give you to wear (we both bought some to take home) and the yukata we wore to all the meals. You don't need slippers as walking on the floor is so nice and you check your shoes at the door.
Our room was not big but worked fine. We each hard fairly large suitcases and large backpacks. We don't need drawers so that was not an issue.
This hotel does not have a hot spring but has an amazing bathroom and includes a wonderful wooden bathtub.
If we did it over again, we would have requested they pushed our twin beds together. I thought I asked for 1 large bed but we made it work. The other thing was that three days of meals was too much.
The chefs are amazing but as an American eating 6 traditional Japanese meals was very hard . At dinner we added the steak which you should definitely do if you are not a big fish eater. They give you a large variety of small dishes for each meal which is very helpful
The staff and chefs were...
Read moreBeautiful traditional hotel. When you enter, you remove your shoes to walk the tatami mats and wood barefoot. They take beautiful care of the hotel and are extremely welcoming. In the room you are provided with both pajamas as well as a yukata and tabi to relax in or explore the hotel a little. They have a wonderful rest area at the back of the hallway down the stairs. You can even make matcha in there! They provided juice, water and even beer in the room. They had delicious snacks as well. All free. The hospitality of this place was absolutely amazing. One of my favorite things though was the wooden bath. I relaxed in that every single moment that I could. We were also worried when we booked in a very tourist heavy area but it was extremely quiet in the hotel. I highly encourage you to try the breakfast as it is a delicious traditional style Japanese breakfast. Overall, very glad that we chose this hotel as it made our Kyoto stay amazing. I will say I did not like Kyoto that much itself so the hotel was definitely the highlight. Also recommend a short trip to Uji if you love teas,...
