Stayed five nights in a traditional Japanese style room with attached toilet and shared bathroom. To start off, here's some plusses and minuses:||||+ very good location near Kiyomizudera and Gion, with a bus stop right out the door||+ excellent service and helpful staff, despite the occasional language barrier||+ nice and clean room, cleaned daily||+ free wifi in room worked perfectly||||- since there's a busy street outside, the noise from traffic is quite loud, earplugs needed||- the futon matresses are very very thin, much thinner than I've had elsewhere||||All in all, an average place. What makes Amenity Hotel 4/5 instead of 3/5 is the service we got. We sent our luggage from the hotel to our next long-term destination Tokyo. Everything was handled very smoothly, it cost next to nothing for two pieces of luggage and they even packed in the umbrella I had forgotten in the room when we left! All our questions were answered and the staff was very polite and nice even when they couldn't help us.||||Another plus is for the common bath. As far as I know, some rooms have their own bathroom but ours didn't. Women's and men's bathrooms are in different floors. Showers are available 24/7 and a warm bath can be used in the evenings. A great way to relax after a long day, even though the bathtub is a small one.||||The hotel is very easy to reach from Kyoto station by bus. The bus stop is right outside. Kiyomizudera is withing walking distance and buses to Gion and Ginkakuji go by frequently. Very good for sightseeing!||||The quality of sleep wasn't as good though, because of the noise from the street and the thin futons. I've stayed in Japanese rooms before and the futon's have been much thicker and softer everywhere else. Here you also have to make your own bed every evening, unlike in some other places I've stayed at. Earplugs were a must since the traffic noise is quite loud. Some rooms are facing the other side of the building and...
Read moreI stayed at the Amenity Hotel in March during my two week trip to Japan. The Hotel is a capsule hotel that also has some private rooms. I opted for the private room, which has a small bathroom, two capsule beds and a small lounge area.||||On arriving at the hotel I was allowed to check in slightly earlier than the stated check in time, the guy on reception seemed friendly and it didn't take long to sort out payment and get me the key to the room.||||The room I had was clean and tidy and quite frankly given the low price, was a lot better than I had expected. The bathroom was quite small for what I'm used to but this was only a minor issue, there was a shower and bath and everything was kept clean for the whole length of my stay.||||The capsules were an interesting experience, kinda cosy really but plenty big enough for me, even though I am a larger gentleman.||||The lounge area was also quite nice, the sofa bed was comfortable, though I did not use it much. Everything was in good working order and so I have no complaints.||||Overall I was happy with the room and what made it better was that there was a room opposite mine that had a vending machine and nice view overlooking the street.||||The hotel is in quite a good area for temples and the historic Gion district and is not too difficult to get to or from as there are a couple of buses that run past the hotel (get off at Kiyomizu-michi or Gojozaka both are very close to the hotel).||||I would definitely recommend the hotel for those on a budget as the price was very reasonable and it is in a...
Read moreOur family of 4 occupied a tatami room with its own bathroom. It was alright for a one night stay - or even longer if one is busy sightseeing and needs only basic but clean lodging for the night. I recommend this place to travelers who don't require anything fancy for a one night stay.||||Room rate is very reasonable. Guests lay out their futons. Furniture consists of two Japanese style low tables. No chairs. TV is small and basic and you won't even bother to switch it on. A kettle is available. There is no airconditioner, so windows have to be kept opened for ventilation. Bathroom is small, quite cramped. There is no closet. Instead there are hooks and hangers on the wall. Wifi signal is good. ||||Overall, room quality is acceptable for the rate offered. Its clean futons, blankets and pillows give you a good night sleep after long hours of sightseeing.||||Reception staff are friendly and were helpful to us storing left luggage. ||||One big plus point of this hotel is its convenient location. Across the street, the bus from Kyoto station stops at Kiyomizu-michi, which is a short walk away. Kiyomizudera Temple is located on a hilly area right at the back of the hotel. When you exit the front door of the hotel turn right towards the next street corner and turn right again and just walk straight ahead to the temple. Convenience stores are a few blocks away. Up and down the street are small restaurants. Gion is about a 25-minute walk...
