My friend reserved us a dining course with chef Nakahara at the Steakhouse Nakahara and I am super glad he did. Nakahara san is a master chef with over 24+ years of fine dining under his belt. I will not go over what we had as Nakahara does provide several menu options when you book a reservation (yes you do have to make a reservation!). All I will say about the food he served us was that it was all delicious, especially his soups. Chef Nakahara is also super engaging and does his best communicating with non Japanese speaking guests. I highly recommend anyone who enjoys steak and a good host to make a reservation with chef Nakahara if they are in the Kyoto area!

After reading the reviews I was very excited to go here, walked one and a half kilometres to get there only to find the place closed because of public holiday despite it saying open, walked another one and a half kilometre the next day only to be told “no booking”, no option to contact other than phone and we are on data only. Didn’t even offer to take booking for next night just chased us away. Save your money and time and go to 焼肉大和(京都市西大路) super friendly people and great food too.

By far the best meal we’ve had in Japan, or honestly anywhere. Every bite was 10/10. Chef Nakahara made some amazing food, put on a great service, and made great conversation. Reservations were easy to book and had no issues. As soon as we arrived Chef had us seated and started cooking away. I would recommend to anyone visiting Kyoto. You can’t beat the price too. The Wagyu was the best meat I have ever eaten

My husband and I just had our best meal in Japan so far at Nakahara. The food was lovingly and expertly prepared from the freshest and high quality ingredients by the chefs in front of you on the Teppan, while making hospital conversation. Two great characters who explained (via Google translate) that the restaurant was converted from a bedroom and garage into this cosy and authentic restaurant. They were also very careful and took special care to make sure my husband’s gluten intolerance...
