On March 9, 2025 (Sunday), at 1:40 PM, we started queuing. Although we were probably the 7th group in line, the queue moved quite fast. By 1:47 PM, we were first in line. However, we were then stuck waiting for the next 20 minutes.
During the wait, the waiter came out once and gestured impatiently at my husband to keep himself and the stroller inside the queue barrier.
The second time the waiter came out, he had prepared a translated sentence on his phone stating that we needed to wait longer. We then requested to split into two groups of two, hoping to get in earlier since we were all very hungry, and our kids are young preschoolers.
He shook his head, so we had no choice but to continue waiting. However, immediately after, he turned to the local customers behind us and let them in—not just one group, but two. We were puzzled as to why groups of two were allowed entry when we had just requested the same.
There was no explanation given as to why we couldn’t enter in groups of two, and the waiter was clearly impatient—but only with us.
At that point, we decided to look for an alternative. My husband went to queue at the ramen restaurant next door so the kids wouldn’t have to starve.
At 2:05 PM, the waiter came out again, his facial expression just as impatient, and showed me a translated message on his phone: “It is a nuisance that you are not lining up in place.” I was shocked and uncomfortable, as I had never encountered such an attitude in any other restaurant.
He typed on his phone again and showed me: “You have 3 people?” I verbally asked, “How long do we have to wait?”
Luckily, at that moment, my husband returned and said the other restaurant had a table for us. The waiter immediately (and probably happily) pulled out the menu and seated the local customers behind us.
It was clear he just wanted to chase us away. If that was the case, I would rather he had given an excuse earlier (e.g., “We don’t allow strollers”) instead of making us stand there for so long, only to leave the place hungrily.
I’m not sure why we were treated this way. Because we’re foreigners? Because of the stroller? The waiter’s name ended with 田.
Such service and attitude should not be present in a frontline staff member. I believe a big establishment like Ippudo can do better than hiring someone like this to...
Read moreThe ramen bowl is so good!!! This is one of my favorite ramen so far in our 2 weeks in Tokyo, Hakone and now Nagoya. The broth is rich with pork flavour but not overly salted. The noodle was thin and slightly chewy to my liking. My favorite part of the ramen was the top piece of chashu ( was given two pieces and the top is obviously the prime half fat lean ) which was not over braised or cooked which kept the texture just right. The bowl also came with bean sprouts, leek and green onions in good balance portion. The soft boiled egg was also very well-done, egg yolks can be spread on noodles. Decent...
Read moreAs with every ippudo in Japan that I've been to, this one was delicious. Perfect broth, perfect service. A little cramped and filled to the brim at lunch time but not unpleasantly so. I got the deluxe with extra meat, nori and an egg along with the gyoza add on and it was very filling.
This location can be challenging to find. It is inside the train station. Half a floor down in an indoor alleyway of other...
