We had a bad experience at this hotel for our 4 night stay.
On this Japan ttip of ours, we were able to stay at APA Nippori in Tokyo ( where we always do, but thinking of not staying here for our next trip this November due to black molds issue ) , Sotetsu Fresa inn Nagoya station Shinkansen Entrance and the one I am reviewing, Daiwa roynett taiko dori side.
Basing on my criteria;
L - location - easy access - transportation, walkable, surrounding areas
5 - 6 min walk to Nagoya station Shinkansen side, 8 min walk to meitetsu bus terminal, 4 min walk to of the entrances to the ESCA underground mall, There is a vietnamese restaurant at the ground floor and a 7-11
U - uniqueness - what sets the hotel apart from others
This hotel is unique compared to the other hotels we.stayed at because it feels modern. The rooms are bigger than most hotels for a budget hotel but the only down side here are the mini fridge. You can not fit a small ice cream tub since there is.no freezer area inside unlike the fridge at apa hotels.
S - service - lobby staff and cleaners
The hotel is very clean and dated. Cleaners are well groomed, lobby staff are very nice except for one guy who is quite of age wearing glasses. He will be the reason why I will give 3 stars to this hotel in terms of service. To give background of what happened, we were able to book for 4 nights in this hotel but for two different room configuration. First two nights was for what they call a moderate double room and for the next two nights, a corner double room which is bigger by 2sqm. Ok, upon checking-in, we talked to this guy and asked if what to do by the time we need to transfer, he told us that one of us just have to go down, change keys and transfer to the bigger room by then. So I asked what time should I go down because I am sure they need to clean the corner room that day and if 12nn will be ok. He said yes the room will be ready by then. So the day before our transfer, we talked to him again just to confirm what we talked about when we checked-in, then this guy with the glasses who seemed to be in his late forties interrupted us acting like he ia the boss in charge suddenly and loudly told us that we have to take our things to thw lobby at 11 am and wait for 2 pm to check in to the other room which ia literally one room away on the same floor from where are currently staying at! We were so polite and asked again nicely that we thought the other guy told us that it would be a seamless transfer but you are saying a different thing now? He again in a loud voice said No! That is not correct! So I asked him if we would just stay in our existing room and not upgrade to a bigger one, would it be ok so that there is no need to transfer? He replied by saying, it's just a room with extra 2 sqm area but everything is just the same and if we will not transfer, he can not give us any refund for the downgrade and he needs to check with the one in charge if it is possible. That's where I laughed because all along he was acting like he is the superior guy in front of his colleauges but he needs to ask the one in charge? This made me raise my voice a bit and told him, you know what, you making things inconvenient for us, we have already set our meeting achedules outside the hotel based on what was told us on thw first day that we checked in but you guys are saying different things and can not even confirm for the other option? So anyway, we just said nevermind, we will just go down with our luggages tomorrow, cancel our morning meetings and proceed with the other meetings. The next day around 8 a.m., the day os our transfer, I went out of our room to buy breakfast and guess what, the corner room was vacant, with doors open, clean...

The hotel staff readily helped to store our big luggage on our first check-out and till our next check-in 4 days later, so that we could travel light to do our Tateyama Kurobe Alpine Route. The hotel is located near to Nagoya JR Station, less than 5 min walk from Taiko-dori Side exit. Use the exits on street level, do not use the underground exit E1 as recommended by Google map, it’s a long flight of stairs hence inconvenient if you are carrying big and heavy luggage, we learnt it through the hard way.||Booked Non-smoking Moderate Twin Room for our 2 stays and the room was of good side, in fact spacious by Japanese standard. We were pleasantly surprised that we were given an upgrade to Deluxe Twin Room that came with a massage chair on our first stay. Checking-in at the counter was a breeze, the Front Office staffs were courteous and could speak good English. Payment and getting our room key cards were done by self service kiosk. Checking-out and returning of key cards were also done via the self service kiosk. Room was very clean and we requested for daily housekeeping. Guests could also request for change of towels without housekeeping by placing the used towels outside the door. There were a total of 5 coin-operated washers with built in dryer spread over on level 6, 10 and 13. We found the status of the washers being shown on TV information channel very useful. We could monitor when and which washers were available for use and when to collect our laundry. The air conditioning was strong. The shower was of good water pressure. The bed was comfortable but the pillows were too soft to our liking.||Being near to the 3 train stations (JR, Meitetsu and Kintetsu) meaning there was abundance of restaurants, cafes and shops in the vicinity. There was a convenience store just right on the ground floor of the hotel, and a few others locating round the corner or across the road. The hotel was also near to few assembly points of day tours to Takayama and Shirakawago. Though near to train stations, the hotel itself was quiet and not too crowded. ||A very pleasant stay overall and would not hesitate to stay with Daiwa Roynet Hotel Nagoya Taiko Dori Side again should we visit...
Read moreLocation : head towards Taiko exit and towards Wendy's, the hotel is around the hotel. Nagoya Station itself could be tricky but just head towards the JR line and you'd see the Taiko exit (turn left after exiting, then turn right and you'd see Wendy's, go straight turn left).||Check in was swift, although the receptionist seems sullen (Wang, I think). Hotel had a good earth conservation project in which if you request for your rooms not to be made up, you'd get a complimentary mask. And coffee/tea sachets provided upon check in.||Room was amazingly bigger than expected (room 1205), maybe because it was a corner room. Room came with trouser press machine, which is indulgent. And one of the well thought-of rooms, toilet had a knob in which you could hang your bath lily. Toilet size generous with a bath tub and somehow japanese hotels seems to have the best amenities, shower towels and the loveliest scented green tea bath amenities. Towels nice and fluffy but could do with a better scent, it doesnt smell so good despite it being changed.||The curtain screen seems a lil off. The sleeping wear seems old and I dont dare wear the bedroom slippers. The bed seems uncomfortable with the indentation but surprisingly, much as it is harder than usual but I had a good night sleep here and that is quite rare for me.||Overall, stars were given predominately based on the shower experience here (I could just stay here and shower all day! I've never been...
